Tv analogue to digital

Hi guys, newbie here who recently purchased Philk49's car and what a beauty it is. Had to travel all the way to Edinburgh from London to pick it up but it was worth it. Phil was a great guy and the drive back was amazing.
Anyhow, I'm curious to learn how to switch the car's analogue tv to digital. Seems a shame to have something in the car that doesn't work, huh?

Any help would be appreciated. Cheers!

Presumably you would need a digital tuner that output an analogue signal to somehow put between the aerial and the original tuner

But I assume the original tv had a some on screen controls which would now be defunct apart from volume etc

You have two routes. You can add a DVB-T box that feeds into a port on the existing analogue tuner and use an external remote control, or go online (eBay etc) and buy the OEM hybrid module which will swap in but cost you a small fortune as they are in high demand.

Cheers for the quick response guys, mucho appreciated. However for a complete blockhead  (technical matters), what you suggest would be the best route?
And ric19, you are right re: the screen controls.

Having looked at all the options I can tell you just getting a hybrid tuner is the simplest option. I paid £320 for mine which though I think is expensive is the best option. There are companies on ebay that will convert your analogue box to digital, but if I remember correctly the price for doing so is prohibitive.
I can honestly say it is the best toy on the car.

You did well to get an OEM hybrid tuner for that money they are usually £400 minimum.

The conversion of an OEM analogue box will I think still require an IR receiver to be hard wired into the cabin and control will be via handheld remote not dash knob.

OEM TV menu all controlled from from right hand dash knob.

It took quite sometime on eBay to get one at that price - most are around the £400 mark. But I did see them go for under £300 too. I just didn't fancy all the extra wires that the Non-OEM required.

I've had a very different experience.

I don't have TV on the Z4, but I do on my M5, and in the 7+ years that I have owned the car, I have only ever used it once (F1 qually session when I couldn't get home in time). For me, it's up there with cupholders and the so-called "Sport" button on the Z4M as a totally pointless gadget.

Really? I had the TV in my 5 series for about 2 years and can't remember properly watching it once, save of course for testing it out and showing off
