Turn off headlight washers…

Is there a quick and easy way to disable the headlight washers on an E89? I know there’s a fuse on the E85, wondered if there was a similarly option on the E89?

It’s only a weekend car that doesn’t get filthy, the headlight washers spray washer liquid all over the place and it’s really annoying :headbang:

Just wash your windscreen with the headlights off…?

AFAIK headlamp washers only come on with headlights?

As mentioned already, Carly allows them to be turned off or to operate every 7washes instead of every 3-you can reduce the duration of the wash down to 0.5seconds if you wish as well.
Don’t do what i did though, after my car passed the previous 4 MOT tests with no issues i took it somewhere else & they failed it!
I’d forgotten I’d turned them off to be honest :P

Unplug the headlamp washer pump!

But why? It's there because you have Zenon headlamps so it cleans the lenses.

Change your screen wash then as it shouldn't be doing that, mine just sprays a proper misted spray with no foam. You will get run off, but then you will with the windscreen as well.
My car is normally bloody filthy anyway so i dont notice

If you car is younger than 1st September 2009 then headlamp washers are not tested at MOT time. I pulled the fuse out of mine ages ago for the reasons given above plus they often seem to jettison the plastic cover as well when you use them.

After getting a leaking headlamp washer fixed and replacing a broken cover on my current E86 I pulled Fuse 40! There must be a fuse on E89s that will do the same.

Now I don't lose another cover or complete jet as can happen and avoid those annoying stripes along the front wings. :)

There’s no separate fuse on the e89 to do this, that’s where Carly comes in handy

The only problem with disabling them is that they seize up without regular use and then can fail an MOT when you plug them back in for the test. Ask me how I know? :)

Don't use that stupid coloured wash that the like of Halfords sell. Stains bonnet.
Only stuff i could find that is nearly clear is Prestone wash.

Got to admit i have in past just unplugged the front washers, thought of wiring in separate switch.
Just cleaned car then day later pull screen wipe bit too far and mess on bonnet.

Funny you should mention that. After cleaning algae off the pump filters on a 3 Series and an E86 I only ever used Prestone fluid in them and never had a problem with either of them, plus it's dirt cheap in Tesco!

I think its mixing brands of fluid that causes problems, especially with the OE BMW stuff.

What's wrong with just uncliping the pump plug? :? Simple, no coding and will take about a minute (including opening the bonnet).

I've always used whatever washer fluid I find, no problems at all. Cleaned my washer filters years ago and never had to do them since, no staining, no foaming, no bad smells, no problem..... what's wrong with you lot?? :D

This seems like the easiest option…

Why?…. I like to keep my Zed very clean, and I don’t like water marks left all over the place.

But you'd be spraying the windscreen at the same time anyway! So that'll be all over the roof, rear screen and side screens anyway, but you're concerned about some on the bonnet as well :driving:
Don't get me wrong, it's your car and you do what you want, obviously, but the logic behind it doesn't add up :?

I mainly have the roof down, but I get what you’re saying
