Planning on getting a Z4 2.5 a/t as my next project. Got a couple of questions (couldn't find definitive answer on google)
** Nope, buying a Z4M won't be cheaper in my case / Manual not available in my country **
only option is to convert to manual or swap engine
(for reference a used 2003 z4 2.5 a/t costs roughly USD33k, an e46 m3 costs around USD48k)
Intro:
Haven't tried standalone, but understand the basics.
Proficient with AEM Fic - Don't want to use this again. The ecu still has too much control over everything. Had to learn to tune via hex/damos just to make the ecu less smart. But still prefer this over flashing just because of Live-tuning / boost - controller.
Basic Hex (winols) tuning. (finding maps based on maps of fully defined older ecu, fuel, ignition, CELs etc)
Fabrication is ok, but don't want to cut up the car
1. Has anyone cracked the Ms45. Couldn't get any info on what Bimtune can actually do. Also from what I understand, well defined maps (ms43) don't translate well to ms45 (for finding maps etc).
a. Traction control?
b. Anyone hardwire BDM?
c. Any xdf / Kp that are well defined (CELs, Traction control, fueling, ignition etc)
d. Anything like Vagcom to recode modules (a/t to manual etc)
e. Any cheap emulators that work? Need live tuning.
2. Is the can-bus of the z4 the same as the e46? For instrument cluster standalone compatibility, prefer not to run parallel, want to use the throttle for traction, boost cut, rev limit etc.
3. Does a Gs6-53 have the same bolt pattern as the 37? Anyone use this with an m3 rear diff?
4. Any turbo z4 pics? (could only find supercharged ones) - can fabricate intake/exhaust manifold, rebuild engine etc.
a. Prefer topmount (easier to maintain and don't have to make/buy a lower engine mount)
b. How come there aren't any 1000whp builds on here? (I know I know another 1000hp question. Lol)
6. Any high HP m54?
a. Kept reading that the headbolt/stud threads strip.
7. Engine swap (prefer to keep it BMW but ok with 2jz or LS as long as it's turbo)
a. Anyone swap in a n54? Does it bolt on a Gs6 37?
b. Any swapped ls2 that's turboed
8. Widest tires on standard body with m3 diff/carrier? (prefer 305/325)
