tunnel or ferry (for Z4 and Cayman)

Have used the tunnel, ferry, sea cat and hovercraft! I am crossing next month and going on the ferry as it's cheaper and I'm in no rush! :driving:

After reading this thread, making sure I don't get any damage is the most important thing for me so changed my booking the tunnel

That being said, I personally don't think you'd have a worry about catching a wheel in the normal carriage. I was in the same pack going out and we were in a normal carriage - it's plenty wide enough really. Plus if you're in the coach/van truck it can be a long way to the toilet!
Correct... Just a little careful driving and it was not a problem.. FOS was great

If you take the ferry and use P+O get yourself into Langans and you can spend the trip there, foods more expensive but you get what you pay for and it's a much more pleasurable trip that way. I've used the ferry loads over the years and never had a problem with damage to the car, however big or small the car was.

Tunnel is much more civilized :)
I'm going to the Festival of Speed and we have to take the train. I know how tight it is and I'm also worried to damage my CSL alloys on that nasty lip. Where do you ask to go in the train that take the coaches and vans? I did not know this was possible!
I think someone responded. But you can just ask the folks when you go to queue. We did when we had our old car. The wheels stuck out a bit (see pic) and were even softer than 108s and easily kerbed. I managed to catch a tiny bit of my front wheel when manoeuvring onto the 1st floor of the train

Its got to be the tunnel for me, I've traveled on both many many times when i race on the continent using either car or van, i always used to opt for the cheapest ferry to keep the costs down but had to travel late at night to get that (between 11ish and 2ish in the morning) and it makes for a real long day and felt crap after.

I've had ferries as cheap as £75 return and the tunnel as cheap as £120 return, it all depends on the time you are prepared to go and how far in advance you book.

Using the tunnel you just have time to have a coffee and something to eat go the loo and then it seems like its time to get off.

The real big plus to traveling on the tunnel is if you turn up early or even late its only around 30mins to wait for the next one, i've turned up 6 hours early and got on one with no extra charge and 2 hours late with no charge (keep the phone numbers handy so you can call them) i've done that with the ferries and being stung really heavy as well as having to wait 5 hours +. (5mins late = 5 hours wait once, doh). Remember, you can always call them and alter your train time if you are delayed but if i remember right there is no trains between 11 and 6 am something like that, but it does take the stress out of the journey if you are running late.

Tunnel for me

cheers

As above. it's the tunnel every time. Top tip is to use Tesco Club Card points to buy your ticket and book in advance.
