Earning 50k to drive around in circles???? And wanting more? What am I missing here ...

Roll on the driverless tube trains, surely that can't be that far away and then they can cry that they can only get a job that pays £20 with their skills.

The DLR is driverless as times, so surely its just an update to get the tubes to the same standard

The DLR has only been running for what 20 years? It is mainly overground and doesn't take the traffic the tube does. The tube infrastructure needs significant work before driverless trains are the norm.

You are not missing anything, well you are - the 40 odd days holiday and free travel as well  They are on a limited life cycle now so squeezing as much as they can. Unions and being able to hold London to ransom in this day and age. :headbang:

Selfishly quite happy there is a strike today... I got an extra 2 hours in bed and am working from home :D

I was in Paris for work a couple of months ago and went to buy some metro tickets to be told they were on strike so I couldn't buy any tickets. Had a bit of a panic, how would I get to the office etc but they said no it's fine, all the trains are running as normal - we just won't take any money from the passengers

Completely against the strike but if you are going to, this seems a much more sensible way of doing it and will keep the public on your side, instead of pi55ing everyone off and bringing one of the busiest cities in the world to chaos

Was going to say that we are becoming more and more like france on a regular basis

Everyone wants something for nothing these days. They should sack the entire workforce and employ them with low wage migrant workers

The sooner we sack those who refuse to sign a no-strike agreement the better. It need a Maggie Thatcher vs Arthur Scargill type battle.

I cycle, so i have a smug grin. I very much enjoyed watching everyone attempt to drive today, hillarious.

I think the strike is over sudden commitment to work nights (didnt sign up for it), however it's not like they had a bad deal to start with. I've worked in numerous (private) firms where that has become a requirement... If the business needs... you can't simply say no.. unless you go find a new job.

Kind of good for me as I worked from home today and yesterday, but I totally agree. I get paid less than this and I dont see why they deserve it over doctors, nurses, teachers, lots of other people providing much more back to the community.

Its all down to the fact they will all be out of a job very soon once automation makes them all redundant I think..

It is a lot of money, especially for the complexity/skill of the job, however i'd not do the job for that much money.. so.

Do they get free transport as well? That is another £5k a year that others have to pay for ...

A mate who worked in one of their offices got a free travel card for as long as they worked for the underground. Assume same goes for the drivers. My zone 1-6 is about 2.5k I think so a very nice perk to have

Well, with 9 weeks holiday I am sure that some free travel comes in handy ...

I'm pretty sure they get free travel. I often see them get on the train at Peterborough on the way in to King's Cross and they are always in uniform and seem to possess a pass/season ticket.
