TT for a Z4

TBH I can never remember a time when BMW trim was considered as being on a par with Audi , choice has always been want a pure driving experience buy BMW want to feel cosseted buy Audi. I must admit I think one of the biggest disappointments is the auto stick in most modern BMWs- it looks great feels very plasticky .

Here's another debate to the mix, audi has quality but would you say the design is better?

Iv had the TT for 6 months and its as dull as ditch water and about as interesting as a peice of plain A4 paper compared to the Z4 to sit in and look at.

As for rattles and squeaks im as picky as the next guy, however I was once told 'thats what the radio is for', lol ;)

I think you're spot on in terms of design. I love the way the Z4 looks - that's the first thing that attracted me to it. Arguably it's even better on the inside and that's where you spend most of your time. By contrast, when I see pics of the TT it looks, well, 'nice'. But that's about it. Still, every review I read thinks it's the bees knees. Guess I'd still need to sit in one and go for a test drive.

Squeaks and rattles are like dripping taps. No problem at all - until that dreaded moment when you tune into them. After that, it's like someone smacking your head with a hammer and I spend my life saying: "can you hear that??" with the missus replying: "hear what?" It's a short step from there to the world of OCD or insanity. :)

It's a very good question tbh I am personally not that convinced about the quality of Audi its perception but what I will say is when we went to buy the TT & looked around the showroom I could honestly say I found virtually every model attractive, whereas when I take my M3 for a service at the dealer it's only the Z4 & 6 series that look any good to my eyes the rest of the range is generic.

I always say to the Audi dealer when I take it for a service is that I wished a bmw looked like an Audi & I wished an Audi drove like a bmw that way you get the best of both worlds.

I just wished that 90 percent of Audis weren't ordered in white- I'm not into this current Audi blinged up look.

JDMs TT looks great - one of the reasons is because it's red not default white.

I agree totally  we actually went after white for the TT initially but ended up with black which we are pleased about in the end...but I fell into the trap of resession white for my M3 though! :headbang:

I'm getting totally hooked on orange...I wish I could leave the configurator alone !!I know what...a cuppa and peruse the brochures :D

Oddly Ms are one of the few cars I like in white - they seem to suit it .
Cheers ZermattV  the problem is a few people think the same way so you always seem to see them in white & it is nice to be a little different I think. :)

I love the focus ST in orange  but the mrs says I would look like a 12 year old driving it...but I do appreciate a headturning colour.

All of these cars are priced very similarly. If the trade price paid by the dealer is say £25k for the sake of argument, and the manufacturer has say £5k of profit that leaves £20k to spend producing the car. Although VAG is bigger than Merc and BMW they aren't that much bigger, so I can't believe there will be much purchasing benefit therefore it is safe to assume that each manufacturer more or less has the same to work with. Audi always have chosen to spend more on their interior and less on their mechanical. Always have and always will. That means you get a lovely environment to sit in but not necessarily a great drive. BMW has typically in the past spent more on driving and engineering quality and less on interiors because their customers like a drivers car. At the moment I think BMW are beginning to shift their position closer to Audi. I'm not sure that is a wise move but unfortunately this market has a lot of buyers who don't give a toss how involving the car is they just want a plush interior and some poxy DRL's.

Don't rise to the bait - Just let them get on with it. You'll find it's cheaper than a car change or a ticket from plod!
Get captured "racing" and they take a dim view these days.

Do a search for Melbourne Red with walnut :D

Oh and all the interior colours apart from black suffer from colour pick up from clothing, red included which seemed to be quite noticeable.

Good luck and once you have been bitten by a zed there's really no point fighting that urge, certainly miss mine

Either I'm going nuts, or the configurator is !! I knew I'd seen red as an exterior colour, but sometimes it comes up with 'crimson red' which I don't like, other times 'Melbourne red' which I do...I still love the orange, but maybe I'm too old for that

Orange. Do it. Saw one at Silverstone last weekend and it's a lot less in-your-face than the ST orange referred to above but very, very nice. IMO the interior package is lovely too with the sporty stripes and the orange stitching / highlights. I have a Valencia Orange 35is configured on the BMW site - never gonna happen at £55k, but it's good to dream

Yes, the interior does look very smart. One of my hobbies is detailing cars, and I think the orange would be great fun to play with :D
