TT for a Z4

When I had mine washing it used to drive me mad as the roof always leaked... E89 is not as well built as my E86 was..

Thanks for all the comments folks. I went to my local dealer today, Stratstone BMW in Newcastle. They didn't have an automatic for a test drive, so I let the dealer drive..it was the 1.8.M
It's the first time I've seen one up close and personal, and was very impressed, lovely lines, and nice clean look to the cabin. We drove with the roof up and down, great fun :D
They have a deal on just now, free upgrade to the 'M'...anything free for me !!
There was a couple in the showroom, just taking delivery of their new Z4, having p/ex'd aTT, so had a good chat with them about the pro's and cons
They've arranged for a test drive in an auto next week, so they haven't given me any ideas of discount /p/ex prices yet. I just love to barter, car salesmen hate me
It's really down to exterior/interior colours now. It's a choice between jet black/mineral grey or orange exterior but haven't decided interior colour for each. any pics would be appreciated.
Finally, I don't know if this is standard BMW practice, but after returning home, I received an email from the salesman, with a video especially for me, showing the Z$ we test drove, and highlighting all the relevant points...nice touch :D

They have only recently started doing this but I agree a lovely touch, glad you liked the Zed & I bet your looking forward to driving an auto, thanks for the update. :)

here's a couple of pics of my red interior on an auto

Oh, just another point, if I bought winter tyres ( which I would), they would change the winter/summer tyres, and store them at the dealer for £50 per year..very reasonable !

Thats the deal I went for, makes sense. I got mine from stratstone Leeds.

However did decide in the end to go for a 20i, has a couple of exras like dual zone climate and auto lights/wipers, think thats it! Bit faster too but with the same economy, worth a look in @ 1k more.

Tim I'm surprised you've discovered build quality issues just reversing it out of your garage, washing it, and then driving it back in again! :D

It just fell apart as soon as I reversed out, so drove straight back in again :?

Still glad I never went for the Titty though :)

I do think BMW are on a Times Are Hard roll, similar to Mercedes a few years back. There is too much cheap cost cutting going on at the mo

Tim.

Has been for years, certainly when you consider most are paying premium prices... that is the 'super z4 low apr and deposit on 20i' deal aside which has meant some have had a very good deal and in some respect have gotten what they paid for.

But quality wise all E89s are the same, whether mine at a giveaway deal or yours at top whack cost.

Tim.

Yes Tim, hence why I say that some people got what they paid for, average quality at an average price. I on the other hand was well and truly spanked by BMW.

The unfortunate problem with BMW is that they are competing against companies such as AUDI who are able to keep quality high and cost down as parts are shared across the group.

The only way bmw can compete on price is to perhaps to cost cut.

Quality asside, driving dynamics and shear driving pleasure is almost second to none especially when compared to Audi. Its why we baught the cars in the first place?!

However spend a week in a nissan micra ( im being serious ;) ) and then get back in the BMW, trust me there will be no quality issue, lol :)

Interesting thread for me as before logging on to here I was browsing Autotrader for a 2.0 TFSI Quattro. Spooky. My E89 has been far from perfect but if I'm honest, the reason I still have it is for the way it looks/sounds. In terms of the build quality discussions, it still drives me mad when I'm driving along accompanied by the usual creaks and rattles, but part of me is realistic enough to know that there's a risk of getting that whatever marque I buy.

One reason for looking at the TT is because I live in a pretty rural place and with all the snow and ice we had in the Spring, the Z4 was a strictly no-go. I couldn't even get it out of the drive. I know the TT Quattro isn't exactly a mud-plugger but there's something appealing about 4wd. I'm considering a test drive to see if I could be tempted over to Audi....
