TT for a Z4

Hi folks, considering part exing my 2 and a half year old Audi TT 2.0 tfsi sline quattro for a Z4. The reason being, I'm the wrong side of 50, and even though the TT is a fantastic car, with brilliant performance, I'm getting fed up with everybody wanting to race me  . I feel (in my opinion), the Z4 is more of a retro /cruiser look, but still capable if required 8), and less of them on the road than TT's, so I would like your opinion.
OK, I know you'll be biased  , but look forward to any advice. I would probably be buying the 2.0 auto (not M).
Thanks and hello to you all.

I assume you are meaning the Z E89 ?
Never had anyone wanting to race me in any car ive had :? although when i,m in the van & the rep guys start trying to shovel me down the fast lane i get really annoyed

I'm 48 and love my Zed. When I was looking round the various options for a roadster, to be honest I didn't even look at the TT for the very reason they are too common. Once I saw the Zed and had a drive I knew it was the one for me.

Errr... doesn't matter whethe you have an E89', E85 or some shed, there will always be someone wanting a race.

Am surprised because i've had a number of TT's that have been sniffing my chuff of late.

Only change the car if it rocks your boat...

This is where BMW nomenclature causes confusion to non BMW enthusiasts.

There is no M in the e89 range OP so you're safe there. There is 'M Sport' but that model is mostly cosmetic in changes from the standard model.

I am pleased there is :driving: I am always trying to sniff a race out its just makes driving that little bit more interesting! But there certainly aren't the oppourtunities that there used to be a few years ago, speed cameras have put paid to that.

I think the E89 looks the business & it has the lovely balance of RWD & you will feel a difference in the drive for sure against the TT, I love the look of the TT myself (the mrs has one) but the drive of the Z4 walks all over the TT imo. :driving:

In terms of looks alone you would be going from a fairly boring looking car to a stunning one, in terms of build quality it would be a backward step IMHO.

Thanks Titan, what sort of probs with build quality ? I've had 2 BMW's previously, and they were faultless.

Build quality isn't bad but I don't think it compares to Audi, put it this way, my E89 isn't as well built as my Z3 :|

Problems on the E89 tend to be silly ones for a premium brand, interior rattles, occasional roof leaks, rear light clusters filling with water, noisy diesel like engines although supposidly normal. Cracked alloys on 19s, should be sorted on latest models. By no means bad by any measure. Good point is roof seems reliable :)

i have considered a tts/ tt rs on more than a few occasions but i prefer the look of the z4 and thats why i settled for one of these, it was the best looking coupe/ convertible on the market and still is for me

in terms of being raced, you will always get that regardless and as someone else says, make sure its what you want rather than what you think you want. aybe take a test drive and see if it works for you

It's funny as we think the build is really poor on the TT & the mrs much prefers how better engineered in everyway a Beemer is she much prefered her old 330d to the TT, the problem with a TT is its just a VW with tinsels on & when did anyone ever lust after a VW!

If you think the TT is bad then don't buy an E89 :o

I'm secretly lusting after an UP! :D

Like your style Tim regards the UP!

In fairness I haven't experienced an E89 but I have been very happy with all the bmw's I have owned & I can't help but love the E89 as its always been the best looking bmw in recent times imo & I love the interior too...I am a fan boy without ever owning one. :)

Do I need to steer clear then?

Tim I'm surprised you've discovered build quality issues just reversing it out of your garage, washing it, and then driving it back in again! :D
