trying to reply to pm and my message sits in outbox

I am trying to reply to other forum members by the private message system. I write my reply, hit reply and then the message sits in the outbox and doesn't show in the sent box as shown. What am I doing wrong?

Hi, that's normal-it sits there until the recipient has read it
