Trying to install Aux and failed.

Hi

I tried to install the aux cable on my 03 z4, after installing however the stereo doesn't pick my aux cable.

Could this be to using a ebay cable?

Does your stereo show the Aux input as an input source? If it does, then it is at least connected properly.

Ok, so you are talking about the quadblock fill ins at the back of the radio I assume? The radio recognises these as soon as they are plugged in (irrespective of whether there is anything connected to the 3.5 mm connector on the other side).

I had the same issue with a cheap one off eBay, bought a proper one from Fruity Car Cables and it works a treat!

I had this problem, I knew that a 5£ one off eBay wouldn’t work, but, you can add the needed capacitors and one resister to the cable and it will work perfectly, cost about 30p for the bits from maplin or an electrical shop and takes about 10 mins to do.

I did this a couple of weeks back.

Get the one this guy recommended from fruity car cables. It's works

Yep just under the main quad connection as there's nowhere else to fit it.

I did this with a previous Z4 from 06 and had no issues however this 03 Z4 isn't playing ball

No expert here but I’ve recently had same problem I bought the quad block from bmw Durham very helpful service manager it was £63 but with a guarantee of a refund if it didn’t work also checked via internet that it was correct part as some didn’t work
Although an Audio guy fitted it costing 40 quid it worked first time point I’m trying to make is I’m sure he pulled out another block and this was fitted in the top left I believe worked straight away after unsuccessful attempts trying to fit a different make
Hope this is of some help
Geoff

The cable needs to have a resistor wired into it in order for the head unit to detect it's presence.

Jamie got one a few months ago for a few quid from ebay that worked.

If it was £100 vs £300, i'd agree.

But £15 is hardly breaking the bank

This is the one I bought from bmw with guarantee that it would work on my 2003 2.5 auto and sure enough it did
