Trying to get more noise from a 2.0

Hi all,

So I decided the other day I wanted to try and get a little more induction noise from my 2.0i.

So far I have ordered a induction kit along with some additional pipe to make it all fit as it appears no one makes a straight bolt-on kit. I will be looking to getting it all installed this weekend.

I will take some before and after recordings for comparison and will get it posted up.

If it sounds s**t I will go back to the standard box.

I can do you a modded rear exhaust box, along with a conversion to "2 pipes"

£300 including the tailpipe conversion, fitted on an exchange basis.

Which part of the exhaust do you change Mike?

How long does it take?

Just go local exhaust place, for 2.0 it wont be more than £170-180 . if you close to east london , go to Fastlane styling

Which will buy you a "universal" aka TOO SMALL silencer, that WILL drone.

Like this;

If you don't believe me, just ask the likes of [ref]Rusky[/ref] who for one had a not inexpensive "aftermarket" one on his Zed..

[ref]piotrZ4[/ref] if you are going to give advice, at least try and make it good advice.

Mine was a powerflow rearbox and while it had a nice deep tone, the drone was like a dull tooth ache that eventually needed sorting! Hence now i have a DLV special

I can vouch for PowerDrone... it over powers my subwoofer at cruising speed 2500-3000 rpm
I have a 2.0 model, can anyone point me in the direction of a great sounding rear muffler that has zero drone?

Hi Jay, see above, ducklakeview can sort your original box out for more noise with twin tips and no drone :)

You could always do this type of thing.

Unfortunately a little far for me :(
I was hoping for a branded box but doesn't seem to be any that remove drone but retain a decent noise - and by that I mean make it sound like a sports car not silent like the stock exhaust :')
I have it booked in for as large a box that can be fitted at exhaust-a-fix in Darlington; they seem to not just buy in and fit an ebay special but rather build their own. I'll let people know how it goes as they quoted me £150 which was a pretty good price for anyone in the area

There's plenty of exhaust companies knocking around up and down the country who can mod your existing exhaust, its something thats been going on in modding circles for years. Have a quick google or have a look on other BMW or general car forums etc for someone local to you. Just pick someone with a good rep/reviews for this sort of thing as not all exhaust specialists are created equal! :D

Well, I had the largest stainless box that could be fitted and it's now quiet as stock when cruising and a lovely growl when accelerating. I'm more than happy with the results now so that's my summer sorted :driving:

Which did you go for? I have a Longlife one on mine and it makes a wicked sound, especially right at the top end.
