trying something different... silver car black top

I quite like it.... Would certainly look better with the pillar and mirrors black too... However with the roof down that would look strange.

I think you bought the one I was looking at (no hard feelings :) ) I was going to leave it black on my Alpina Blue Roadster, on the basis that the hood is black and repainting it is a) expensive and b) limits the audience for possible buyers if I decided to get rid of it. I think it looks fine.

Forgive my naivety on the matter but once fitted to perfection does one have to go through all the intricate fitting each time it goes on? Ie: on a beutiful weekend like this one, could you whip the hard top off to enjoy the weather or is it a case of leave it on for the whole season? I've been keeping an eye out for them and just wondered...

I'm not a fan of the hardtops on the Roadsters anyway though. I think they look odd. I'm the same with Hardtops on the 3-series as well. It's usually at the rear of the top, where it meets the bodywork, they always look a bit cumbersome and awkward

I think that is due to the unusually deep horizontal bar at the base of the rear window and the gap beneath this overhang, as well as the very heavy rear quarters / B-pillars. They can look ok on a black car where these are less obvious. Interestingly, a silver hard top on a silver Z3 looks ok too...

I'm not biased in any way, but a black hardtop on a black zed looks great :)

As does a blue roof on a blue coupe :P

Any so i FINALLY got it adjusted...... after like 3 days of trying ive realised these top imo are definatly not a perfect fit and take some real patience to get fitted right, in the end i managed to get a 5.25mm gap... as opposed to bmws stated 5mm gap at the rear quarter panel, i now have as perfect as fitting top as possible.... anyhow it looks fabulous imo..... i actually prefur it to the open top look...... no wind noise, no rattling, no banging at all...... the only problem im finding now is the top is trapping the exhaust noise which is made it pretty much unbearable now..... i simply cant wait till my DKF system is avaiable, ill definatly be going for a quieter setup...... heres some quick pics before she heads over to the bigger garage, ill grab some pics the other end also........... i did note however that the rear hartop window is so close to the boot lid i winced as it swung open...... those little plastic hardtop boot lid stoppers on my car were 100% needed, more pics later this evening...... im Very happy with the black sapphire metalic top and silver paint work.... it really does look unique..... ill call it my bi-colour z4m.

Not the best pics but you get the idea!!

This is the hardtops LEAST flattering view where i kinda think it looks alittle wierd imo.....

lol i knew youd say that...... but hey i kinda feel like i got 2 in 1, so im happy.... will grab some pics with the audi and others when i get back to the garage this evening..... will be nice to grab a group shot, my little boy kinda demands all my time really.... i understand not everyone is going to like it so... im welcome to all opinions.... from some angles imo the hardtop looks wierd.... i tried to capture the frumpy angle... do you see what i mean in the first pic?? maybe high-lighted more on this car with the 2 tone scheme.

that car is gorgeous  I think even if you put a red hardtop on it, still looks good :P

thanks, she sure it a beauty, look forward to giving it to my boy one day.

had some moments oh "oh s**t" when the top slipped and nestled on the body work, and then i adjusted it to low and it nestled on the body again.... i removed to top to check for paint scratches and luckily came out good with no damage anywhere!!! what a ball-ache tho!!! i cursed this thing many a time over the last 3 days and at one point nearly gave up and posted a forsale add, lol!!

So, what's 500bhp like to drive in a Z4? I'm guessing that it's in the "spit you out and kill you" territory?

pretty nuts tbh..... 1st and second are wheel spin unless its warm..... other than that its drives like a stock car..... with the traction control on, the car is slower than before as the car just bogs..... you have to be very careful where you use the power, it demands huge respect.... i use it at the local sprint circuit and will be actually competing with the car this year, you you run a time 2 lap with no-one on the circuit, the car gets to stay pristine, i trying to build a "sprint car" as opposed to a track car, the main objective is to keep a competely tractable machine that can be used comfortably for the long drive to the shows like goodwood and also to keep in as pristine as possible, i think i enjoy the cleaning and maintaining as much as the driving, sad i know....

the first stage of the s/c Vt1 was a much better prospect i terms of driveability imo....... i would recommend that whole heartedly... also the stage 2 requires some serious work, the whole front end comes off, it was not a nice sight in the middle of the install....

I wonder if full tint on the rear screen would look good?
