trying something different... silver car black top

Looking good Beedub, not sure matt black would look any better, but please don't add the spoiler :poke:

back out tomorrow for better pics and another lloonngg session of trying to get adjustment spot on.

Sorry, I don't like it. It looks like you bought it on ebay and now can't afford to get it painted. Once again sorry, only my super cyniclal view. :driving:

You would think that they would be made easier to align rather than a right faff! :headbang:

Looks much better in black than it would in silver. How about some pics side by side with you TT now you have two black-roofed silver cars

will do matey, its back at my mom garage tomorrow so ill get a group pic with the other toys while the weather is good :-) :driving: :driving:

btw, finally got this thing adjust after another 3-4 hours!!! JESUS, what a ball-ache!! in getting the rear edge to 5mm as per phils guide the middle/front section of the same piece is pretty close to the body hpwever but it seems thats the only way to eliminate the "gap" at the front windscreen corner!! finally on and perfect but never again..... lol... if i knew that was going to be that difficult, i honestly dont think i would have brought it.........

This is an argument that is going to run, I once said something wasn't to my taste although stating that if the OP liked it that was all that mattered and he took serious umbrage to it, then forum massive came out stating it was a open forum and you should expect comments from both sides, afterall we can't all like the same things.
That said a black hardtop on any colour Zed is the only colour that does not look like Ebay special and that you are possibly marely trying to ape the appearance of the soft top with the hard top.

Anyway stunning Zed when all said and done.

looks well with the black wheels.my next buy is a hard top vinyl wrapped in satin black carbon fiber to match my wheels

Looks great! Your experience trying to get it aligned is putting me off getting one though :(
Is it true to say that once you do get it aligned it can go off/on easily?

I have a garage with a pit but what size car the garage and the side acces was designed for I can't say, miniature! So my Z has to stay outside. Grrrr....

well im out again today doing more fine tweaking..... ive got the front edges by the windscreen perfect now but the rear that hangs over the quarter panel is to close to the body... so another few hours of it.....
it is genuinely a ball-ache and i think today i may well settle for a less than perfect fit.... btw this is after 9+ hours of trying, absolute ball-ache.., yes i agree if i would have known it would be like that i would have thought twice about buying it...... i guess every hardtop and every car are ever so slightly different so non will ever fit the same but......

I'm not so sure. You're going on to a public forum and posting pictures of your car, therefore inviting comments and discussion about it. You even said in the first post that you thought it wouldn't appeal to everyone. At least he gave his reasons why he didn't like it rather than just saying it looked bad for the sake of it.

In a lot of ways I agree with him. If I saw that driving down the road and didn't know better, I'm sure my initial thoughts would be that you picked it up second hand and hadn't painted it yet to match the car. I'm not a fan of the hardtops on the Roadsters anyway though. I think they look odd. I'm the same with Hardtops on the 3-series as well. It's usually at the rear of the top, where it meets the bodywork, they always look a bit cumbersome and awkward.

But there's still plenty else to appreciate on the car. You can't please all of the people, all of the time. :)
