Trusting Dealers

Without naming and shaming my local dealer, today I am shocked at what I found out;

- In April dealer tells me I need an Inspection 2, plus new discs & pads all round. I said I would call & book in shortly.
- Now in July, still without any brake wear indicator or Inspection 2 message I took it in for a full health check with an independent BMW specialist

Result; Needs new pads (discs are fine) in around 5k miles & an oil service - NOT an Inspection 2.

That's a £195 job versus £1200 at the dealer. Shocking.

Hold up... What does the dash display tell you is next service-wise? Also, what stamps (and for which mileage) do you have in the book?

The car's not with me at the mo but from memory;

- Oil done at 9k with Jaguar
- Inspection 1, 12months ago 19k
- Oil being done now at 35k

Display said Oil Service due 1k miles when i turned ignition off.

Original brakes still on car but did have brake fluid service / change 6months ago at bmw

Did they supply you a written quote? You should pull them up on this, also - name and shame!

I've still got the estimate for the service, and they put a note on a past invoice saying pads down to 3mm & new pads & discs will be needed
