Trust BMW service with wheel repairs or goto specialist?

I have a few scuffs embarassingly - mostly shallow but one slightly deeper one where it looks like a chip out

Booking my car into BMW for some checks under warranty and they charge £39 per wheel to repair but this I'm guessing is a spot repair. Happier to leave it with them than some back alley alloy wheel shop, but has anyone else found their wheel repairs are good? Another company in an industrial area offers proper refurbing with "baking" of the wheel for around £50 per wheel..

Ask them how they do the repair - if it's only a 'smart' repair then it should cost about £5 as it doesn't require any baking or anything - and that's assuming they do it themselves rather than just having a contract with an outside repair company (i.e. charge you £40, but pay the lackey £20).

As a full set of M wheels tends to go around the £450 mark with new tyres, if this ever happens to my wheel - I will just buy a new one from a forum. I was seriously thinking a year ago about stocking 4 spares as they were only £450 but still thought it was quite a bit of money just for the "in case" scenario.

Are you kidding? One Continental tyre is around £210 (each!) - do you mean just the wheels go for £450 for a set of 4? I thought they were closer to £1000 for a set?

I bought a set for £550 IIRC had about 3,000 miles of wear and were in excellent condition. Put them on the car at 16,000 miles. Still got the original set as spares. Worth it for the tyres alone IMO.

A friend has just had an excellent repair done at a Porsche main dealers in Mersyside for £40, sure they'd do a BMW. Where are you located?

Not kidding, no. ALso - one tyre for £210? You need to get another supplier !!!

Tyretraders, cTyres, and The Tyre Depot were the cheapest for supply only when I last looked - about £175 IIRC.

Just looked now and Tyretraders can do one supplied & fitted for £185.74 (£180.81 delivered) or cTyres can do one supplied and fitted for £200.00 (or £186 delivered).
