Trunk Lock

Hello all....I'm a new owner of a Z4 (picked up a used '03 2.5 L Z4 last week....previously an '00 323ci owner).

On my 323ci, I was able to lock the trunk and disable the trunk release located near the driver's foot well by turning the trunk key half way.

It doesn't appear that the Z4 has the same feature. Is there a way to disable the trunk release so that the trunk can only be unlocked with the key?

If you turn the key half way, it should disable the interior release switch, but it will always open with the key remote.

Hmmm, I thought I tried that, but it didn't seem to work (it either unlocked it with the key....or didn't move in the other direction). Let me give it another try, maybe there is just gunk in there that didn't let it turn. Thanks!

I attempted to lock the trunk with the key (to disable the trunk release button near the foot well), but it looks like it only turns counter clockwise to unlock.....and does not allow me to turn clockwise (which I thought would lock the trunk).

Does anybody have a DIY on how to disable the trunk release button? I found one on this forum for disabling the inside compartment which I found really useful.

The reason is because I need the trunk to be more secure. Sometimes I have to store my laptop in there....and its just too easy for someone to break in and press the trunk release button.

If the doors are locked the trunk will not open without the key fob or the key in the lock. Just try it, put the top and windows down lock the car then reach in and try to push the button, it won't open better yet the unlock button won't work either.

Defy - thanks, I'll give that a try. Although, I swear I tried that but I locked the car with the key fob while I was inside the car and then opened the door with the handle and pressed the trunk release button. Maybe its different if I'm outside the car.

That's why I couldn't understand 'cause it's disabled once it's locked..

Thanks Ducks..

if i lock my car with the key fob in or outside of the car it won't let me open the door. Maybe it's a setting?

Actually you want to check this with your car. A while back there were several of us (a thread too) that noticed with the car locked via key or any way, if you could reach in and tap the interior unlock button it would in fact unlock stuff in the car. To fix it you could bring it to the dealer and they'd fix it. Some of us (myself) 03 folks have that problem. I haven't gotten mine fixed because if I leave the top down I'm only out of the car for a minute or so and the car will be in view.

*EDIT* The trunk so far as I know is ok*

Tried mine today just out of interest, '06 2.0i Sport. Locked the car firstly with the remote and then with the key and the boot release button became disabled, as did the central locking switch, the door handles and the button to open the centre storage compartment.
