trunk lid stopper

Morning all,

in the process of sorting out a hardtop for the car and got a question.

can someone tell me what does part 9 actually do? it is called "trunk lid stopper" and I was told that is the only missing part. I want to know how crucial is this part? can the hardtop be fitted without it till I source one and fit it? can it be done afterwards or needs to be done at the same time when fitting the hardtop? any thoughts on this matter is appreciated. :)

Check out this thread Navid; usefully with pics. Looks like it stops the boot lid lifting all the way up when you have the hardtop fitted. might be able to fashion a similar thing yourself if you dont have the part.

Edit: just read it and looks like it's more to protect the posts.

isnt it to stop the boot lid from raising too much and fowling the rear window of the hardtop...

I gather that :P but would all the cars have that part 9, even if they have never had hardtops or not? I just checked my car and got some stuff on there, so made me think the owner before me had hardtop for the car?!

arent all UK cars prepped for hardtop though?

I would have thought that would be part of the preparation. Im only guessing though...

gannet,

do you have a hardtop? if not, can you check to see if you have them stoppers in your boot? looks like even if they are missing, I can sort them out later, as I already have some sort of stopper in the boot.

no I dont have a hardtop, but will check and report back - be tonight or tomorrow though as Im at work and car at home.

from memory I think they are there...

much appreciated

I'm certain all UK cars have this as they are all prepped as said.

But its only a section of rubber pipe effectively, so find something with a suitably thick wall, cut a section and slit it end to end and slip over the bootlid mechanism.

A trunk is something you carried your clothes in on the Titanic......

its basically an inch long piece of rubber/plastic piping that fits over the hinge to stop the lid opening fully. I'll take a pic of one tomorrow when the weather is dry.

They were not Not fitted to my Zed, and are still not fitted despite using a Hardtop I've never had any fouling issues and unless you fling the boot lid open I can't see how it would hit anything.

here you go, excuse the dirty hinge :D
