Trunk doesn't open via key fob button

Hi all, have you seen the problem below?

I have a 2006 E85 (Z4MR) and my trunk won't open with the key fob.

- I have tried both keys, both don't open the trunk pressing the trunk button.

- The other two buttons (lock/unlock) work perfectly. They lock and unlock the car and if hold them, put the top up or down.

- The trunk button on the driver's door opens the trunk, does the key fob use the same "system" to open the trunk?

- I checked with Carly the coding, and the option to open the trunk via key fob is enabled.

- In Carly, to test I also tried to change how the key fob trunk button works (ex "click" and "hold"), none worked.

- As mentioned in the previous item, I have tried to click, hold for 1 sec, hold for 3 secs, etc. nothing works. The trunk doesn't open pressing the trunk button in the key fob.

- I have tried to open the trunk pressing the key fob trunk button before and after unlocking the car. As I saw some people saying their car needs to be unlocked to allow the trunk button to work, but it doesn't work as well

Appreciate the help and hopefully it can help others as well.

Thank you!

Could be your wiring. Try checking the wires that go from the car body to the trunk area. If the car is LHD (you called it a ‘trunk’ rather than ‘boot’ so guessing!), I think the wires are on the right of the car. There should be some sort of cover you need to move back so you can check the wires on that side. Then check the the other side too for any breaks etc.

I will try it.

Apologies if I'm stating the obvious but when I'm standing behind my Z4 the button to open the trunk usually doesn't work, although it works fine if I'm next to the car.

I try near the car, less than 1 meter, lock and unlock the car work fine, but the trunk doesn't, so it is something on it. I thought that if it opens with the button on the driver's door, the wiring was OK, but based on @inkey$, it might still be the wiring.

Same here, I have to be with in a meter for the key fob to unlock the trunk.

a meter from the trunk, a meter from any part of the car?

I have tried from less than a meter from the trunk, all buttons work from the place I try, except the one to open the trunk.

A meter or less from the trunk to get the trunk button to work, basically I have to stand right near the lock before it works.
I don't know if that is the way it is suppose to be but I've heard a few other owners say the same thing.
I'm just happy it works at all.
