Trouble Remounting ///M Backboxes

Morning guys,

I've had the internal bypass mod done and went about refitting the silencers last night. However, I can't get them to sit in the middle of the bumper, too high and over to the left (passenger side one). I'll have another go tonight, but is there a certain procedure to follow when putting it back together? Any tips?

If not, is there a way to adjust them?

Was this MM's handywork? as soon as i've recovered from my cam follower repair bill i want to do the same :D

Afraid i can't find any guides on exhaust mounting - id probably run it to a trusted garage for a quick look?

Will get pictures once it's all fitted properly and once the car is back on the road on 1st April to test under load.

I've done this job several times and its simple to get the tail pipes lined up. When you tighten the bolts which attach the silencer to the hangers only just nip them tight at first, then you stand behind the car and note whether the pipes need lifting/dropping. Then go back under the car and slightly loosen one or both the bolts through the hangers and adjust the silencer to correct the position of the tailpipes, and then nip the bolts tight again. Check again, and repeat until you get it right. The trick is having the feel of the "biting point" of the bolts so that you can just move the silencers slightly without them moving more than you want them to.

It's easier to adjust one silencer relative to the other rather than trying to adjust each one individually in a position where you think you'd like the tailpipes to be. :thumbsup:
 
Thanks John, got there in the end, perfectly aligned now :thumbsup:

One exhaust sits slightly further in than the other, not quite flush with the bumper, but from looking from the rear you don't notice it. MM tips look fantastic and really transform the look of the car. Can't wait to test it on the road.

I'll take a picture tomorrow, although it's still up on axle stands, with impending aero skirts to fit and oil change.
 
Still not driven the car yet :( Waiting on a new rear disc which has cracked (only 500 miles old).

I did however do a oil change on the car at the weekend, so once the car got warmed up I could rev it to get a better feel for it. Lots of crackles when you come off the throttle :evil: :evil:
