Hi guys,
We're trying to pair the new phone to the Z but I'm assuming as this phone is newer than the previous iPhone SE that some upgrade maybe required for the stereo infotainment system to accept the iPhone 16 we now have? Any help grateful received, thank you.

I managed to pair new iphone 17 to my 2011 car ok , was previously a Samsung Galaxy 21.

Have all the slots been taken up, maybe delete the 'old' pairings and see what happens

I presume you have the standard CIC iDrive system, but I had no luck trying to pair Mrs F's iPhone 16 on my 2012 car either. I went up and down the scales, updating the telephony firmware to latest version etc. but gave up in the end as she only drives the car once in a while anyway (no problems with my own Android phone).

Interestingly, Mrs F now has an iPhone 17, so I might see if that pairs without issue as @137mph says since at a guess, it can also be down to the Bluetooth version on the phone itself.

If the full and proper pairing procedure is done then all iphones even with those withy ios 26 should hook up no problem...remove ALL bluetooth connections from both phone and car..power both down..re-boot..restablish..95% of so called failures fail to follow that procedure

Thank you, we will try as you say.

Wondering how OP got on?

Now also tried with an iPhone 17 - they talk to each other but at the point where the phone is meant to generate a code, it just ends up timing out (so same as with the iPhone16). Also in our case, would be a nuisance deleting ALL existing connections from the phone since it's already paired with other cars and multiple other devices. As it was only for possible occasional use, just not going to bother!

That’s the typical failure point…I use mine all the time with CarPlay ..no great effort to repair imho

It’s a while since I paired my phone but I’ve a feeling you just enter any 4 digit number.

Yes but the phone makes a connection but times out before getting opportunity to enter a 4 digit number.
You aren’t meant to wait for the phone to generate a code, as soon as the car asks for the code, put any 4 numbers into the car, I think the phone will then ask to connect.

Still no joy, my code reader showed up a communication fault, l cleared it but still couldn't pair the new phone, maybe a software update is needed but we will see what BMW say as we need to call in with the car to get another key coded to the car anyway.

That communication fault is most probably the issue..
