Trolley Jack from Halfords

I decided to buy a low profile jack from Halfords at £25. As I have time, I went to collect from our local store. Then discovered it was £40. Queried the price and was informed to get the online price, I need to reserve and collect from local store. Connecting to the internet whilst at the till, I did this. Five minutes later, I paid £25 for the jack.
Modern world!

Same thing happens in eurocarparts  Unbelievable, isn't it?

I watched a guy go in, ask for something then said it was cheaper online and the salesman said you can reserve and collect it online whilst instore

Brilliant

My professional knowledge gained over the last 9 months looking after retailers would explain the situation as being due to them not having an integrated omni-channel strategy linking all forms of buying behaviour through appropriate use of technology, software and customer journey planning.

More simply explained as 'totally missing a trick and looking a bit like idiots as a result'. Though in fairness, it is quite hard [expensive] to do.

@Bing I hear what your saying. I am actually helping a retailer out so that customers can place online orders in store! Halfords are a little behind as are others. Huge benefit is that customers can buy from their stock pool and have it delivered. The setup of having a customer enter their personal details instore has to be legal of course and that's where the challenge is. Not to say it cabt be overcome!

Fast3000, go gave a look in Monsoon with your Mrs in Westfield in Shepherds Bush, Bluewater or Victoria Street. Other places like Guildford and Cheltenham outside London. They're ahead of everyone, mixed baskets (in-store and online) on tablets, Bluetooth barcode scanners, paid for via Bluetooth chip and PIN devices. No need for taking customer data

They still have issues, mainly around returns, but their tablet ATV is about 3 to 4 times higher than in-store alone. The incremental sales figures are unbelievable. They'll start rolling out to 100 stores in a week or two in time for Christmas. And they're my customer :D
