Trim piece missing - help required

Hi forumers, I need a little help. At the weekend I’ve noticed that a small piece of trim is missing but I’ve no idea what to call it or describe it to get a replacement ordered, so hoping someone can help…

Inside the rear wheel arches of the e89 at the front, tucked low and behind the side skirt panel, should be a piece of inner arch trim that covers the trailing arm and fits up to the main arch liner. I assume it’s held in place with some sort of clip(s) and a pot hole or puddle has removed it, so I’ve now got a hole!

It’s hopefully a cheap fix. Did get last night getting a pic but it didn’t help. Will try again later if it helps diagnose the part I need to go out and get. Also hoping, as it clearly came off easily, I can easily self fix a replacement back in.

Screwdriver at the ready. Have a good day, and thanks for any help. JL

If you have never used Realoem, now is a great time to learn.
Search for the site, select BMW then input your exact model. Easiest is to use the last 7 digits of your VIN.
Then you can open up the parts lists and find the part number of the bit you need. I think it would be in the 'Vehicle Trim' section.
Copy that and paste into eBay, you may get lucky.

I was thinking part 4 - the removable access hatch.

Hence - photo.

Or the OP could just use the real oem diagram, see what is missing, & take it from there.

We don't need to know :)

Thanks all. Will try the parts search. Photo now attached… one from off side (attached) and one from near side (missing)

I agree with [ref]flybobbie[/ref], Part 8.
However, now you know what it is, why not try looking yourself. Realoem is a great tool for finding parts and useful to know your way around.

Part number: 51717209817

Stick the number into ebay and lo!

Robert is your mother's brother!

Or spend a bit more and get a brand new one from Lithuania.

Tbh, I'd call up Sopers of Lincoln, mention the forum for discount and see if they can get you one.

EDIT: Looking at your photos again it's hard to tell, but it almost looks as though part of the liner above that piece is missing too. But they're not the clearest pics to judge from.

Why do lot of part searches come up with Lithuania suppliers?
Are the parts made there.
Dunno, I just assumed they must have bulk bought. Or stolen a lorry load. :D

Thanks all. I’ll get under the car and make sure it’s just one part… now I have a search option I can see what should be there! Will probably go via Sopers having used them before (last time for the roof relays)

Well done Forumers, problem looks to be solved in less that a morning! You’re all lovely. Take the rest of the day off.

Thanks again all. I’ve ordered the lower trim price from Globalparts, eNay for £14.20 (used). I may indeed need the inner arch liner, but I’ll see once I’ve got the trim piece how badly I need it. Replacing the whole thing looks a faff; I guess I might be able to fabricate something that splices part of the liner to the existing. I’ll get a second opinion when the car goes for its exhaust fit at Motech next week.

Keep in mind the arch liner is made of fibre board, so make sure all screws or nuts removed before pulling, it easily tares.

My concern is that this is exactly what happened when the lower trim went AWOL: it tore off a piece of the liner too. :?

Ah yes, the lesser known auction site dedicated to all things equine.
Oh I though it was the one where you bid and paid then they denied they had it?
