Trim leprosy

Was giving the interior a spruce up today and noticed some weird flaking at an area of the driver side tunnel trim where your left leg would make contact.

I’m assuming it’s been caused by suntan cream coming into contact with it when Ive been wearing shorts.
Put some clear tape over it for now but will need sorting properly at some point. Any ideas? Paint?

Holy cow ! If that's what it does to the trim then what does it do to your skin ? It's discoloured the leather knee pad also

That looks like the same surface reaction you get on the black plastic trim - I've got a steering lock cover that's had contact with a pine tree air freshener hanging from one of the stalks. I was going to try and strip it all (surgical spirit?) then re-lacquer it but thats direct onto the black base plastic

Not something I have ever needed to try, but the kits you can get to restore your seat leather back to the original colour, might be worth a look.

Doing a few cc installs you can tell the cars that have had air fresheners hanging from stalks due to blistering.

I iz lookin for 'BMW Oregon paint'. Ebay came up with a few bits n pieces. Worth a shot I suppose.

You could try sanding it down and respraying it with matched colour leather dye from somewhere like furniture clinic. Best to try on an old bit of plastic trim first.

Sunscreen is a killer. So many horrible additives in there that will tear apart your trim. Yes, I would bet it is the sunscreen.
