Trickle charge help

Hi folks

Sorry if this has been covered already, I’ve been unable to find anything on the forum. I’ve used my Ctek trickle battery charger on previous cars but wondering how people set it up on the Z4. I’m new into Z4 ownership and the car will not get used much over the winter and only used every couple of weeks or so, so I’m looking for a quick way of connecting to the battery.

I know Ctek offer battery connection leads to connect directly onto the battery in either 5mm or 8mm connections if anyone knows what the Z4 battery uses of hand? I know on other cars you can go straight into the ancillary power socket in the boot but don’t think the z4 has one.

Any help is appreciated

If its a G29 there's a pos and neg post under the bonnet, however the neg post is actually outside the engine bay near the washer bottle filler 👍🏻👍🏻
I've hardwired a ctek quick connect port in. I used a chassis bolt for the neg, so all the wiring was kept tidy within the engine bay

Many thanks, that’s helpful. Will have a look

Under the bonnet on my M140i there's a positive connection under a flap near the baulkhead and a negative post at the front by the inner wing, I would imagine its the same on all models maybe in different locations. I always use these points and which are designed for this purpose. I never connect directly to the battery as I understand it can cause potential damage to the electrical system.

That’s great Tim, thanks for the reply. I’m glad I asked as I assumed it would have to be done through the boot but that’s 2 replies highlighting the terminals under the bonnet.

The battery connections have all kinds of electronic wizardry attached to them which don't like a direct connection to a charger. The bonnet terminals are definitely the place to charge from.

I'm not clued up on the G29 but i have a G32 series that lives in the garage rarely moving , my usual trickle charger used for many years wasn't " smart " enough for the more modern Bmw tech , bought one of these https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8977324?clickSR=slp:term:car%20battery%20chargers:1:35:1 works a treat but as already pointed out , connection via points in engine bay .

My Ctek is connected to the positive connection point under the bonnet and for earth I clip that to the metal cross brace in the engine bay and it always works fine.
