Tricked up MX 5s. Is it just me or do they want to race everyone?

As subject. I'm fed up of them constantly wanting a dabble when I'm in one of the roadsters. Maybe it's just the way I look?
Or is it a common thing?

Nah, they're just stupid. they will run out of gears pretty quick . I know, I had one. Not worth the effort to race them.

Building a turbo mx5 mk1 with a friend, should be fun when done. As standard it’s glacially slow.

People see others in sportcars as a challenge, I get it all the time when I daily the zed. Mostly it's hot/warm hatchbacks, but generally the same sort of driver 18-25 spiky hair and aviators

 I agree with all. Had one turboed I thought he was going to blow something, and I had just pulled off lights normal speed, as I don't go "hard" on the gas until up to normal temp.
No stress I thought I might just be me

Never had an mx5 try it on. Never seen a quick one either. They are simply a nice gentle way to have fun.

Driven by speed crazed hair dressers by the sounds of it!

They get good reviews but I prefer a proper sports car. I think even it top 2l spec they only put down about 150bhp so a bit like swatting a fly.

It's not the regular let's have fun on a dry day crew.
It's idiots with spots and big egos!!
Similar to the ST brigade with fiestas. They even wanted a drag race against my old RS6.
Heyho

I think it might be that they crave excitement. I had a 15 plate 2.0 MX5 for a while. Noisy, bland, handled well but no character. That's why I got rid of it so - boring even with the top down there was no soul.

My 15 year old Zed has character in spades plus the hidden power of that straight six. I know I can play games but choose when and where. I don't need to show off.

I've not had that problem with MX5s to be fair - it's more the grumpy dad's in Scenics, Zafiras, Qashqais, etc. that seem to think they've got a rocketship.

But that's probably because they fall for the marketing hype - the S in SUV doesn't stand for Sport, it stands for Sh*te!

Yes, exactly the same problem here

Some old moron in a C-max even shouted out ''hairdresser'' as I drove past him  It's laughable really. Their lives are that crap that they resort to name calling people who aren't put on a leash by their other halves

I often find that all the bigger vert drivers feel cocky next to an mx5.... to be fair with you lot I enjoy my mk1 a lot more down the twisty roads than I did with my z4 :O

I got called a "poof" once by a guy in a jacked up pickup, as he passed me with my roof down. He changed his mind when I parked up nxt to him in a local supermarket, and explained politely that St least y Penis was of a good size, unlike his.
It was funny... :D

I had douche in a Cayman trying to show off to his new piece yesterday. Guessing he thought a tatty on the outside Z4 couldn't be a monster underneath. Flew past him and waited at the lights smirking...he literally just sat there skulking and pouting.. she was grinning at him too.

Watch out, there’s a potent new MX-5 about! I’ve just read that BBR, the leading Mazda tuning company, have launched a turbo upgrade for the latest MK4 MX-5 that gives it a peak output of 248 bhp, but because the car is so light, that translates into a power to weight ratio of 237 bhp per tonne which, I believe, is on a par with a Z4M :o It’s not cheap though at £6k, with a further £2.5k wanted for an upgrade to the brakes and suspension.

I agree with many sentiments expressed here about the MX-5 and having owned one, yes they are noisy, cramped and unrefined, but at the same time there’s a chuckability about them that makes them enormous fun and, I’m pretty sure most owners will tell you, they hardly ever go wrong. Would I go back to one though? - not a chance

I got called a poof once in the zed. Did make me laugh, moron in the inside lane a roundabout decides to turn right with no indicators, nearly hits the side of me. He Didn't like getting beeped at so decided to chase me down the road for half a mile. Didn't even realise he was chasing me till I saw this old black merc estate flying down the wrong side of the road when I stopped at some lights. He Pulls up next to me and starts kicking off. All the usual in front of his son who looked about 6 and was terrified and upset. He was a scouser and all I could think with his whinging was who's this Tony bellew wannabe. Towards the end of his rant he started on the car and the usual gay hairdresser crap. When he finished I looked over, laughed said you finished. Have fun in your pile of shite old diesel taxi and drove off, he looked shocked but didn't follow. I guess this Tony bellew didn't want to go two rounds!😂 .
