Treatment by other Road Users in 5 Series

..and they get of your way because they think you're from the 4th emergency service. :D

Eased off to let a lady in a nice blue E89 out at a junction today, but she was soooooo slow. I had to come to a complete stop and by the time she had pulled out there were 3-4 cars behind me honking. So embarrassing - we both had our roofs down as well so must have looked like a right couple of twonks.

I must say that I've probably had as many appreciative remarks/gestures about the zed as derogatory ones.

Is it just a bait-the-rich-bastard thing?
Do people who drive Bentleys or Aston Martins get the same guff from the riff-raff?
(I didn't include Rolls Royce because you're not supposed to drive your own :P ).

I must say that over here in Germany. I've not even heard of folks abusing a nice car due to jealousy/spite. Everyone here is very respectful of other cars.  The only ones that cut up other drivers and cause any problems are the Audi owners. Not sure what it is about buying an Audi that turns one into an ass.

^^ because they moved from having BMWs...

Ah, now that is very reassuring to me: my biggest worry about picking up my lovely Z4 next week had been "Oh no, I am going to become a 'BMW Driver'!" - but in fact maybe it is high-time I got rid of my Audi, since that brand is the current favourite of the world's most irritating drivers.

Now I just feel sorry for my Audi that it might find itself being driven around by a nob - probably the same fate befell my old Honda Civic Esi after I traded that in seven years ago. We will never know, but I've always secretly hoped that it got chavved up right and proper by someone 8)

I've had way more idiots to contend with in the Z4MC than in my previous Zed roadster. I usually get one everytime I take it out. I've taken it for an MOT this morning and had a Clio RS up my chuff. Usually it seems to be Audi drivers. Most of the time I just let them by.

I think it is just that Audi is currently seen as being the trendy brand to be seen in and that you've "made it" if you have one. Previously it was BMW and it will probably change again in the future.

I think the issue with Audi is that they've followed BMW with their "fake" S lines... in the same way BMW have their fake "M POWER"

So you know have all these nuggets driving a Audi A4 tdi "S LINE" and this it's a proper S / RS model... when it's just the styling...

They are just as bad as each other, and the drivers of both marques seem to think that a badge means their cars are super fast...

** This coming from a Audi S8 and BMW Z4 (which replaced my S4) driver**

So I'm a double, double kn0b driver....

I'd class myself as closer to riff-raff then rich, probably the most common guy on here. I must admit i'm tempted to throw things at myself every now and then. 8)

OK, so I'm guessing it's more of a "hate the guy with the car that's just beyond reach" syndrome type thing, and guys who'd spit at a Z4 would never spit at a Bentley?

As for being common ... dude, you got some competition right here (originally from Oz, and proud of it). :D

I have to report that the Z is back! Seviced ans squeek free. The Sun was out this morning and the roof came off! Reach the end of the road and was IMMEDIATELY let out in to the traffic queue. I Love my Z :D

You have to be driving an RS6 Avant for me to think you've made it :D

THAT'S an understatement of success in my book

I think you can have a bad day whatever car you drive a few years ago when I had my Merc some nob in a Vauhall Zaphirah tried to drive us of the road on the M4 there was much sign lauguage until I booted the V6 and left him for dead pillock.  :fuelfire:

I have noticed this more in my M3 than any other car I've owned i always seem to get people coming up close behind me trying to push me into going faster...it doesnt help that I am dawdling around trying to get more than 20mpg out of it most of the time!!

Using a Motorcycle as my main mode of transport I have also found it ironic/cringing, that I was to purchase a BMW when I've had a few tailgating me or even trying to impress their g/f by trying to burn me up. I mean, really, you'd have to have a lorra lorra of money for a car that could outdo me on a 1250 Bandit.
The Z4 I thought was for blokes that were small in other departments so never really gave them a second look. I always wanted another Beemer after owning one eons ago and thought of a 3 or 5 series soft top. However, lo and behold I must have had an ephiphany or summin or nuffin.
I wanted a 2 seater sports car and the Zed comes top of the list just in front of the Nissan 350z soft top. Lovely motor but a Nissan!

I drove a Nissan 350z soft top a few years ago & I liked it & I like what the 350z stands for, its nice & old school but I totally understand what you are saying & the shape of the Z4 & build are really standing the test of time very well

I had some muppet in a lowered civic with a fart cannon and Matt black bonnet giving it the beans on the way home today. I'll admit I had a bit of a play with it, just giving it enough so the Civic couldn't do anything but try and keep up. I was in the right lane and completely effortless and the chav chariot was all over the place. We came to a roundabout where we had to stop and guess what, he didn't! So desperate was he to "burn an M" he was straight past me in a cloud of exhaust fumes carving up the traffic on the roundabout.

Shame he didn't get T boned.
