thanks mark, was the day after the worst snow storm in history... Which really wasn't that bad, although the drive over there was pretty interesting!
The national park is beautiful was so nice to get out into the wilderness after being in the cities but didn't see any black bears unfortunately!

Been on the road 3 months now! 2 more to go! Loving life.
Since getting to the US we have done Maimi, Orlando, NYC, Philly, Washington DC, Shenandoah National Park, Detroit and now in Chicago.
We got pummeled by the snow, we had 17" in Detroit and because there is zero public transport we had a fiesta saloon... was great got everywhere. Never seen roads like it. Our motel was between 8 mile and flint because there wasnt much in our budget, was pretty intimidating not the best experience, so we ended up splurging on the Motor City Casino hotel for one night which was lovely. We went to the Henry Ford Museum which was one of the best ive ever been to, could have spent 3 days there it was such a huge collection. We also went round the Ford Rouge Facility where it all began. Anyone who is a car fan or into anything that moves would live the ford experience. Detroit tho... what a shame the boom and bust of the car industry has create such a depressing place everywhere you go there are abandoned houses, buildings etc was really sad. We then got the bus to chicago... what was supposed to be 4hrs took 9 because of the snow ice and high winds. Got here safe and sound but the snow isnt stopping there was about 2ft when we got here! Crazy!

Wow, i totally missed this entire thread - and your whole trip story! Balls! Great decision.
I've done quite a chunk of your travels, i actually want to go back to Bolivia. i feel bad for not warning you about the salt flats bus journey .. lol, my spine nearly left my skin on that bus. 14 hours driving down concrete stairs with 21" rims on coilovers, anyone?
I'm in Chicago every other month - If you want food/drink ideas or local knowledge let me know! If you don't - here's some anyway:
Au Cheval or Acadia for burgers, Jake Melnicks for wings (and ~2million scoville units), and 'Avec' is one of my favourite restaurants.
Drinks/cocktails are best at places like Sable, and Watershed - any of the local breweries are usually awesome drinking venues (If you're an ale guy, drink Alpha King). Zero-Drunk is fastest in Ceres bar, where mixer/spirit ratios are reversed, it's also in the CBOT building which is pretty cool to look at.
Best places to go out are typically west loop or river north. Hipsters (and respective funky food / drink places) to be found in Wicker Park/Logan Square. If you're really drunk, get a taxi to Weiners Circle and ask for a chocolate shake

After some crazy weather the day before and really bad light and disappointing pics, I camped at 6000ft through a snow storm, van froze inside and got up at 5-30am to get this image. I think it was worth it what do you think? Truly awe inspiring place.
