Travel kit for Europe

Hello all,

I'm off to France in two weeks and I need all the bits to be road legal. I have the breathalisers and first aid kit but need the rest so I was going to get a kit. Can anyone recommend one with the right bulbs? Been looking at this one:

Spare bulbs are NOT mandatory in France, or the vast majority of Europe, they are merely recommended.

Fire extinguishers and first aid kits are only recommendations too.

but they are needed when going to belgium ! in belgium, the first aid kit, the fire extinguisher are mandatory,

in some countrys you also need a saftey vest. and also 1 for the passenger.

it ould only be a problem when they run a big trafic control, or if your stoped for other reasons.

but also in france it's now probihited to use a satnav with warning to speedtraps. so watch out for that

Lightning87 - - The fire extinguisher is mandatory in Belgium, bulbs and first aid kit are not, see here http://www.rac.co.uk/driving-abroad/belgium/

Don't wish to appear rude, but it's inacurracies such as this that keep such mis-information circulating.

The link will allow you to check the country of your choice.

Is fine if the speedtrap function is disabled.

Don't forget that the high-viz jacket needs to be carried inside the car and within reach of the driver. You can't just stick it in the boot.

and they also need a court order to inspect your satnav (unless its very obviously an active detector device of some kind which they can easily recognise).

Yet more evidence that the French are probably some of the most stupid legislators in Europe. :headbang:

Its not a crime to drive six inches from my rear bumper at 90mph apparently, but if my satnav has a camera database I am automatically some kind of criminal. They are some of the shittiest drivers on the roads and I say that from significant experience over many years driving in France. My absolute pet hate is the wanky motorbike/scooter drivers around Paris who think they can drive between lanes in a traffic jam at speeds in excess of 60mph and everyone must get out of their way. I can't wait to see one get squashed. :fuelfire:

Is that boiling spleen fluid I can smell?? :?

Don't forget to flatten your headlight beam (non xenon) & fit beam benders if your on xenons.
Happy holidays.

No, there is a switch for Xenons, look at the picture in this thread http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6150&p=404680&hilit=headlamp+switch#p404680

Best visibility is to open the BONNET & remove the plastic casing in the wheel arch, much easier to see then as is easily overl;ooked

Sorry for the duff info.
You learn something every day.

Regardless of what's mandatory, I would want spare bulbs etc etc if I was going on a long roadtrip.... nothing worse than being caught out, and not knowing where the nearest Halfrauds equivalent is

No need for a Halfrauds equivalent, any of the large mega-supermarkets carry just about everything you will need on a day to day basis. They have everything from Teabags to Car Tyres and in some cases proper Scooters imagine that in your local Tescos.
