Transmission Range Sensor

Morning All, I collect my Z4 3.0i Auto 2003 model on Friday am last week and on the way home from the second hand car dealer the EML light came on and the car went into limp mode. Crawled it home and discussed with the dealer, following a diagnostic turns out that there is a fault with transmission Range sensor (P0705) and accordingly there is a CAN fault (E299A). I am sure there are other posts on this topic but I wondered if anyone knew of common problems with this and whether it will be £££££ to sort?

I have agreed to return car to dealer and get most of my money back until such time as it's fixed, then affectively I will buy it again. Also worried that it will be fixed properly and therefore have ongoing issues...

Cheers

Hi wizzo .
I know your pain mine also drove great on the test Drive .
Spent a couple of hours going over it and low n behold lights popped up on the way home .
Mine was abs module it's at an indy being fixed while I have a hire car , I ordered a scanner so I can check for any future problems etc .
At least they are sorting it for you and not trying
To wriggle out of it .
Hope it all turns out OK for you !

Thanks for your reply, I dropped the car in earlier today and the dealer ordered a new gear selection switch and arranged for it to be replaced today, I picked up the car tonight! So can't really fault the service. Seems to be driving well no problems, however, when you start the car the EML and engine symbol are the last lights to go out on the dash, didn't notice these pause before going out when I test drove. If anyone has any knowledge on this I would appreciate feedback.

Greg, hope you get yours back on the road soon. Ordering a scanner is not a bad shout, my friend has a local garage so going to get it scanned again tomorrow so as I can be confident that this has cleared the fault.

I have wanted a Z4 forever, and loving the driving experience so far!

Hi chaps, perseverance is the key, both cars are really good when at top notch and good engines, too. Scanner is always a good shout (despite the fact that I don't have one yet). Most things can be sorted with the wealth of knowledge on here. Enjoy!
