Transmission light z4 2005 2.5@

New member
Just bought z4 2005 w 31000 miles from dealer in Naples. A 2005 z4 2.5 ——-seems pristine “BUT”trans light goes on when start car after 24 hrs wo driving. When I Start it and put it into gear - feel jolt. Shut off engine restart all good.
Does this sound familiar ?? Any thoughts
There is no transmission stick to c transmission fluid level.

Is this an Auto?
Had a similar issue on very wet days. The switch on the side of the box has a temporary fault and means you can only select reverse or 4th in forward.
Switching off and back on, sometimes with a quick move up and down of the selector lever clears it.
However, I assume not much rain in Naples?
 
Mine has done this a few times, not triggered by sitting or rain, just seemingly random.

Putting the car in neutral before starting makes it go away if a straight restart doesnt.

My 2004 auto did this and I lived with it for around 2 years before I got it fixed. I think it was the auto transmission switch that got replaced. It’s under the car and can get moisture in it so eventually starts going faulty. Cost around £250 to fix if I remember. When the light used to come on I’d simply turn the engine off then restart then all ok. It used to do it once every couple of month so never really bothered me.
 
I've recently fixed the same problem on my 2004 3.0i auto by getting the gearbox selector switched replaced. Cost approx. £240.
