I'm going to order some new glasses soon, directsight have 50% off during January which I'm going to take advantage of most likely.

while choosing lens options, I'm unsure if go to with transition lenses ( these being my only pair of glasses )

what are people's opinions on the transitions??

for anyone who wants to look at some new glasses the website is http://www.directsight.co.uk/ and the code is JAN50

cheapest pair of prescription glasses with discount and delivery is around £11.25

I'm not a fan of transitions, personally. At that price, I'd splash out and buy a pair of prescription sunnies.

I wear transition glasses and they're fine, although I've a pair of prescription Maui-Jim's for driving the car in sunlight

I think I'll avoid the transitions for now, tempted by these frames though.

I'm going to have to try a variety on in a shop somewhere before hand though.

I've worn transition lenses for years and wouldn't be without them for taking away general everyday glare. I have prescription sunglasses also but find its a pain swapping glasses all the time if going in/out of doors.

Tim.

I'm the opposite - tried transition lenses and found them a pain as switching between outside and inside I found the lenses too dark or not dark enough. I also found transitions to be a pain when driving. I ended up bought two pairs of glasses - normal and prescription, much better.

Transition lenses age you by about 10 years.

I remember someone in my primary school had them, and even back then I thought they were ridiculous looking.

Me too, the transitiona are great as long as you have the roof down, put glass around them and they go clear. My Maui Jims are a bit old now and the scrip is off one update  but at $700 a pair I'll wait.

My opinion as well...

Yes they are a tad expensive aren't they :)

I tried the prescription lenses in numerous RayBan frames but they were flimsy, the Maui Jims are solid as a rock, not bad as normal sunnies but to get the proper coatings they have to be made Maui Jim and are very pricy. My progressive transitions were over $900 so they are comparable . If I went to Mexico I could cut the prices in half......
