Transferring map route to car

Question for you guys more au fait with the complexities of navigation than I.
I'm going up to North Wales next week and I have a route I've done previously on my KTM which is certainly not the route the inbuilt satnav will take if I just put the destination postcode in. Is there a way to get a route that I've planned on Google, Waze, Kurviger, Calimoto, or any of the other routing options transferred to the nav unit in the car?
I have a USB in the glove box and armrest - would these be any use? On my bike I play the route and it sends directions to my headset via Bluetooth but not sure if that works in the Zed.
If not, the wife will be reading notes for the drive up through Wales......

I have a Garmin satnav that can be uploaded with GOPX files so that it forces the sat nav totake the predefined route
I have used Garmin express and Garmin Basecamp to pre plan routes and then make the GPX file.
Alternatively use Google maps with specific waypoints then save them to you tablet / Phone as directions.

Even better - Buy a Map!

Got to admit my cars gps map 2008, ok to find most places, not always to street level(Doesn't allow full post code so keeps guessing places). I always just use Navmii on a Nexus 2013 tablet.

I'm sure the inbuilt nav can get me to the destination, but not on the roads I want to take. I had a Garmin on my old bike and found it so easy to plan a route and transfer it via USB to the unit, but it doesn't seem possible in the car

Sadly in-car tech didn't really catch up with the rest of the world until a few years ago. If anyone does find a way to do this, I would love to know too but it sounds like it isn't possible.

Sometimes I miss my old E89 without iDrive because my phone wedged perfectly into the cubby hole.

Yeah, seems car makers think you just want to get somewhere. Bike makers know you want to enjoy the journey and let you plan a scenic or twisty route. I've got the route we did on the bike on Google maps so I'll read that while the wife pilots it

The other option is to install something like this:

It can be done, I've posted a how to here
https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=83208

If you've already got a suitable gpx file you can just open that in Tyre and save as BMW file as per the instructions on the link.

Hope that helps 👍

Many thanks for that tip, Cerbera.

I'll have a go at that in the week. I've used Tyre extensively when planning on the bike.

Maybe I'm being too simplistic?
If you have the route planned on Waze, why not just use your phone for this trip?

Because I have a large inbuilt display in the Zed and was hoping there was a way of connecting the two. Of course I can use the phone, same as I could to watch TV...... but it's better actually watching it ON the TV.
That's what I was trying to suss out

The very simple option is to load each waypoint as a destination and then run the nav as one set of waypoints..simple…

The neat trick to avoid silly routing if say you used post codes as a basis if these waypoints is to ask the nav to sequence to the next waypoint when you are say..a mile away from the current waypoint…

In aircraft flight management systems we have a similar concept ..a fly by waypoint as opposed to a fly over waypoint

That's very expensive for a MMI box, some of us have done this mod and bought the MMI box from Aliexpress / Alibaba for around £130 to £180. Great piece of kit which I use every day and now have 5 mapping options. :D

In the German ZRoadster Forum, we've developed a Windows tool to convert *.gpx files from i.e. kurviger.de into an E89 import *.tar.gz:
https://www.zroadster.com/forum/threads/routenkonverter.138834/post-3057319

A detailled description is documented in the attached pdf, of course in German.
This pdf file can be translated with google as well by uploading the pdf:

In addition, there is an online converter available:

Use translate Google:

Ming, are there so many roads in North Wales that you need a satnav? A £1.99 AA road atlas and your wife will do very well. Indeed, in most of Gwynedd and Clwyd, you can just use the road signs.

Thanks Silverstar, it's something I'm considering for the future so I'll do a search.

Yeah, I know there's mostly great roads, but having been there a few weeks ago on my bike there's definitely some I want to avoid due to traffic build up. Think I'm going with the paper road atlas and Kurviger's fast and twisty option and see how far we get on that before we have to switch to a more direct route.
