traffic lights grand prix

I'm with you Ron.
The 335d, especially in estate form, takes everyone by surprise: including the driver on occasion!
Loved mine and was sad to see it go but the practicalities of life took over. :(

I bought the saloon version as we also had a Discovery at the time which did the job as an estate car - now it’s gone I regret not buying the estate version for all round practically. We only have the Z4 and the 335 these days.

What mpg did you get out of the 335d?

Recently during lockdown doing some ridiculous short journeys and cold starts only 32mpg but that’s not a normal scenario for me as all of my current but essential travel is between 1 and 7 miles. I can’t walk these short trips as I have a dodgy leg  I hate using it this way but needs must. I won’t use public transport at this time either.

Pre lockdown day to day / normal driving 38mpg is quite normal and on a run from home down to Portsmouth and onto Toulouse in France 50mpg plus

On a trip to Hanover at Autobahn speed (some at 140mph but most between 80 and 100mph) we got an indicated overall door to door 45mpg - this also included a week of tootling about to and fro when in Germany in both town and country.

Mine is fully specced with adaptive suspension and big M Sport brakes so it’s not bad on the twisty bits and it will easily embarrass a lot of cars.
As we live at the bottom side of a decent incline, the AWD system and a set of winter tyres makes it a very good all rounder - I don’t know of another car that can do 155mph or get 50mpg if needs be and do sub 5sec to 60mph?

If the roof fell in tomorrow my 35is would be the first to go (and I love my 35is )

To summarise,. You can say fuel consumption in the real world is between 40 and 50mpg

Thanks Ron. I emphathise with your dodgy leg as I myself suffer from dodgy leg. Maybe it is a trait of 35is owners. At some stage my old Mazda 6 estate (student mover) will have to go but if can convince her indoors that a 335d could at least match the fuel consumption of the ol' Mazda then i might have a chance. It would be the estate version though. I get 47mph in the Mazda.

that was always my problem with my zed, could never get my supervisor/carer/Obergruppenführer into thr car as as soon as the engine started i turned into a teenager :driving:

I know the feeling- unfortunately it only effects the space between the ears!

Gravel driveway?

I read that most owners of 4x4 vehicles got them because they had gravel driveways
Rob

Not this one!

I got mine because it was a ludicrously cheap deal and you don't get a non-X version.
Actually it very rarely drives much more than the rear wheels unless you're being a nutter, or the road is slippy.
I did enter a roundabout a bit quick a couple of times, but by the time I noted the loss of traction the car had got it in hand. I could actually feel the balance change as it roped in a couple more tyres to help the idiot!

I now have a 120d touring with X-drive. That is mostly FWD and the backs join in as required. I am not yet convinced that this way round is worth the complexity, especially with substantially less torque than the old 335d had. Again, it was a cheap deal so I grabbed it quick.

150 of those miles were at 70mph on a run. :D

Excellent :driving:

You wouldn’t really know the 335x was awd - it feels and handles very RWD - unlike the 3.0 Quattro which seemed quite numb - it also was a hoot on the traffic light GP
