Trading in Z4 for 135i convertible?

wow, everyone's comments about the 1 seems quite mean!! seems like the general feeling around those who have seen pics of it are the same though. anyone i've asked says it's too small. i like the comment about "pre-crushed"

but buying the model w/ the 335 engine i believe comes with 6 piston brakes up front and M3 type handling out of the box and i think it is supposed to be priced under $30k. a track bitch w/ a warranty for under $30k. seems like a good deal to me

but no, i wouldn't replace my Z4 w/ that car either as i believe a top down car should only have 2 seats. but the hard top 1 series as a track bitch would interest me

E85... my point is I would not buy one of these for the same reason I wouldn't buy a Z4 in bright pink... it may drive really fast and hangle really fast, but it's PINK!!

The 1 series just looks like a golf estate... it's hiddeous! If I wanted a convertible with more seats, why not go for the 3 series, at least it looks a lot nicer!

Unless you buy an M3, the 1 Coupe looks much nicer than a 3er. IMHO, of course! :P

One of the nicest-looking Bangle designs, and you trade it in for one of the worst?

That's why I said I would get one as a track bitch. Do you really care how your track bitch looks? As long as it performed well and was reliable, right?

But yah, Z4 over 1 series vert all the way!!

As a track car and daily driver, a 135i would be just fine

For 135i money you'd be far better off with an Exige or a Caterham as a track day car. Maybe even a stretch to a Westie XTR2/4 or a Radical.

The Exige cost a lot of more than the 135i coupe. The base Exige starts at around $46K in the US. The Exige S starts at around $59K.
Way more money than the 135i coupe and the Exige'es can't be use as an every driver.

I would have to disagree... I think one of Bangle's best looking car to date would be the Z8. I was seriously considering get a used Z8.. But, those things are going for $70K+ USD for a used one in nice condition. Can you say modern classic? I'm going to wait until I see the 135 in person before I diss the car.

I completely agree with you there, who cares what a track day car looks like?.... BUT, if that's the case there are so many options out there for track day only that I'm sure the 1 series wouldn't hit the top 5 even.

I'd buy the chick :D

do you think if ya changed the usual bmw fishing pole for a stubby it would improve the looks slightly??(tongue planted firmly in my cheek)

I'm going to buck the trend here a bit ... while I'm not running out to trade in my Z4 for 1er, I don't think it's all that bad looking of a vehicle. From a styling perspective, trying to compare it to Z4 is like comparing apples and cats. IIMHO it holds its own quite nicely in its own category.

That is one ugly car!! Its too up in the air and narrow. I'm sure a nicer set of wheels and slightly lower would make it half decent. If thats possible!

So I see a link to this 1 series forum on another forum and I am scrolling through some of the posts reading them to my husband and low and behold THERE IS INTGR8R! You're everywhere - I don't know what I would do if I went to a bmw forum and didn't see your name in the first few posts.
