Trade In

Im thinking of a trade in either end of this year or next so just thought Id see what BMW would offer. Paid 47k for the car new in March 07. 10 months later and they offered 29k!! Thats ridiculous, I couldnt quite believe it, that has to be the worst depreciation I have seen on any new cars Ive owned. I expected BMW to hold alot better. So looks like ill have to find more money than I expected for a trade in, doh!

Oooops - you should have joined Z4um sooner than you did, you'd have seen the threads about depreciation back then, there were plenty cars available for £30-32k back then.

Are you thinking of trading and the end of 2008 or sooner? What are you thinking of trading it in for - TBH for the kind of hit you'll take, is it really worth it, I'd try and keep it to soften the hit a bit?

Yeah Im def gonna keep the car for longer now as that much of a hit is just not worth it. And to be honest after hearing it I went for a drive and remembered just how much I loved the M and was asking myself why I was getting rid of it anyway. Ill keep it another year at least I think. Was looking at the Audi R8 but Im still not 100% decided. Alot of people seem to think that when the Z4 goes out of production the M's residuals will strengthen like the Z3 did. Do you think this will be the case?

Z4M - not sure about the price as there still seem to be loads coming through. What I wouldn't do is swap it for an R8 - if you already had one, then it is a good time to drive it with nil depreciation or even make a profit, but I suspect by the time you can get your hands on one [without paying a premium] then supply and demand will be a bit more settled, and you could get your fingers burnt on that too.

Plus it can't be noticeably faster than the ///M, can it? Also, it looks a bit fugly too, it's great from the front and rear but side profile looks odd.

Yeah the looks are an aquired taste, lol. I didnt like the side profile but when I saw it in the metal I loved it. The V8 is not that much faster than the M but I was looking at the V10
Im gonna wait a year and see how I feel(the waiting list is a year anyway) then. Cheers for the help

Don’t be so quick for the V10 R8, this is what happened to it before, using the twin turbo V10 from the incoming S6 :D

Why the Audi RS8 Burned
Back in July we pointed a blaming finger at an oil or gasoline leak, but now we know the true cause of the pictured blasphemy. quattro boss Werner Frowein spoke with Swedish journalists and revealed that the now famous burnt Audi R8 on the 'Ring was indeed a RS8 test mule. The test mule was equipped with the RS6 Avant twin-turbo V10 delivering 580 hp, but in the mid-engine set-up it also caused the Audi RS8 to catch fire due to the produced heat. To make matters worse, three test mules went up in flames in this manner.
Werner Frowein: “The 580 hp strong V10 will not be making it into the RS8, we are currently working on a ten-cylinder with just over 500 hp.” He also mentions that the RS models will start production earlier into the models life-cycle, as we mentioned earlier this week.
Other news is that Audi is developing an Audi TT RS with a new 5-cylinder 2.3 liter engine, producing 310 hp and is meant to take on the likes of the BMW Z4 M Coupe.
Furthermore, Nieuws.nl mentions that the Audi RS4 should not be too far off, which confuses us at the WCF newsroom since Audi tends to only produce one RS model at a time and the RS6 Avant just went into production. The RS4 should be powered by a V8 or bi-turbo V6 and compete with the Mercedes C63 AMG and BMW M3, but mr Frowein let nothing slip on the subject.

29k is about right, i bought my mar 07 car in July for effectively 34k, new it was just over 48k, 14k depreciation in 3 months and 261miles! The best I was offered was 31.5k against a new M3, 28k is where they all started, horrendous really for what it is. I was all set to chop it in and walk away, fell in love with a 997 C2s and was and ready to go and then suddenly I fell in love again and decided to keep it a while longer, I have a sort of love hate thing going on with mine you see, I doubt a Cayman would make me feel the same!

The trade in values really are shot but I suppose we have to live with them now.

I still intend to keep mine for at least another 18-24 months. Hopefully the trade then will be around 20k.

Any less and I'll probably just stick with it for longer than anticipated, buy a 'normal' motor and keep the m as a weekend fun car

Nosed around a pair of RS8's at a main stealer yesterday. A new one and a second hand example. Nice cars but £98,000+ each :headbang:

Cam back to earth by sitting in the new TT and am sooooo glad I have the Z4.

Well... they say a new TT-S will be coming out to compete against the M. I thought they were joking.

Just seen these on the autoexpress site.

The 'rumoured' TTS was one of the reason I decided to cancel my TT2 order in 2006, as I didn't want to buy a car for it to be updated in 12 months, no matter how minimal the changes were.

While I'm glad I cancelled and got the M for a hell of a lot more reasons, now this has been announced it puts the final justification in my choice.

Now if only we can sort out these bloody residuals I'll be a happy bunny all round!

Hmm TTS with Haldex quattro and 270-odd bhp I wouldn't say is any match for the ///M, more a halfway house between a 3.0 and the ///M. The facelift SLK has 305bhp too.

I do quite like it though. Probably be expensive.
