traction control query

hi again, does anyone turn off the traction control, does this alter the feel of the car /? no traction on my old m roadster and no problems, would feel it break grip during spirited driving but with the z 4 its almost like you are scared to turn it off, yet I am sure the 4 is a lot surer footed than the older z3. any thoughts ?

Wait till it's dry, knock it off, then take it steady till you get a feel for it.
I know a few people on here turn it off, general consensus IIRC is positive.

If and when you do have a feel for it, post up your experience/opinions, and especially z3m comparisons, I know we'd all be interested in another persons point of view. :driving:

I take mine off at the track and the car comes alive IMO !!! Don't usually disable it on the road....

Z4M has traction control and stability control together so when you switch it off you are all alone with your car, a very rewarding experience but be careful when you do it for the first time. Better to try it on a big area or in a circuit.

If your not careful you might end up doing a z8cookie

still a bit confused re traction, at first i read the m has both sytems , so press once and get some slip but still intervenes and press and hold to turn off completely , the supplement m handbook says the non m system is different ,the m is either on or off.
this worries me as when i gave it a bit of gas off a roundabout expecting a bit of drift, the computer just cut power even before any sign of loss of grip, is it over protective and what will happen when i turn it off, will it then become a true m care and bite me in the butt ? :?

The ///M (in the UK at least) only has on or off. There is no inbetween.

If I turn mine off, so that the DSC light is lit on the dashboard, then I can flip the car around 180ยบ with a bit of throttle.

Yes it kicks the tail and if you correct it can kick back the other way with vengance so be careful with it!

There was a thread recently of a guy who put his down a bank and into a tree with this very situ.

Scouse poser, I've seen you doing that on the Fiveways roundabout at rush hour :)

The art of the one point turn
Off on the track. On on the road...except when I want to pull away swiftly without risking S54 emasculation c/o the DSC...or if I need to write "eleven" or "zero" anywhere :D
You'll find it fairly easy to predict the point where traction will be lost most of the time, but it can bite if you become too complacent

today i pulled of the lights slowly got to about 3k rpm and floored it hit the redline threw it into second gear and the rears light up throwing me sides ways down the road and i slightly shat myself it can easily catch you out oh and the dsc was off.

Switched traction control off when I collected it 2 weeks ago and prefer to drive by feel , never had tc before to used to being careful with right foot input. There's plenty of power at the back wheels thats for sure.

I turned mine off last night, put my foot down at the traffic lights - and stayed where I was. I had to start again in 2nd gear.... I then tried again further down the road, got nothing in first gear and a sideways back end in second. I think ill leave it on until the "summer time, when the weather is fine".

Even in the summer on a nice day on a decent road, a traffic light launch can get the wheels spinning in second gear.

I'm not sure about third though...

although is this weather, third is possible.... whilst changing lanes at around 40-50mph :| traction control on too
