Tracker?

Found out my vehicle has a Tracker Monitor fitted by the previous owner - and spoke to them today, they want £125/year plus £30 one off registration fee. My insurance company will give me a £25 discount.

I'm not it's worth it, if my car was stolen, I don't know if I'd actually want it back if you know what I mean?

Any thoughts?

I have the same on my car I havn't activated it for that reason.

I spent the money instead on GAP insurance which will bridge the gap between the invoice price of my car and what the insurance company offers me if there is a total loss.

I had no choice - insurance company will not cover the M without tracker ...

If my car was stolen, I don't think I'd want it back anyway. I have GAP already, so covered on that front.

I live in a good area, car is garaged and blocked in by another car anyway.

Your assuming the police would never find it if it were stolen.

Tracker would help the to find it quicker and therefore less miles/damage on it.

I had it on my first BMW as it was an ex demo car and the dealer had to have them fitted to all their cars, and being a bit paranoid at the time of owning a BMW and it being nicked I continued with it.

Havent bothered with it since though on my next two.

If it is stolen and recovered quickly, can you insist it is 'written off' and you get a payout?
Not sure but would think not. :(
Good Q.
No you have to keep it. TBH I wouldn't want mine back either. The £25 discount is hardly worth it, is it :scratchhead:

I assume tracker is the US equivalent to Lo Jack here?
I was under the impression that without a key the Z4 is un-stealable ( at least that's what the dealer told me )

Nice sig. :D

never considered tracker - and given those prices it dont seem worth it to me.

JetBlackZ - your sig makes me feel sick :o

Modern cars are (practically) 'unstealable' without a key. That's why thieves break into houses and steal the keys instead ;)

With a tracker, you notice it has gone, ring them up and activate it.

Insurer I changed to in December didn't care about a tracker so I didn't renew - like above I wouldn't really want it back after it was stolen. Unless it was just the crew in Gone in 60 seconds that nicked it. :P Unlikely.

There are several variants of Tracker. I have it and cost £275 when I purchased the car. No renewal, valid for life of ownership and then only £25 to transfer. That to me is a better option than the annual payable version.

In terms of recovery my former neighbour had his Merc convertible stolen when a smooth operator entered his factory took the keys off his desk (I know you gotta ask why?) and drove off. Good news was the guys were apprehended thanks to Tracker just as they drove it into a lockup full of part dismantled Mercs. His was next. All he lost was a gallon of petrol from the drive away...

Those are the conditions I'd want mine back. Used, raced part destroyed - nargh keep it and give me the money.
