Hello

My Z has a tracker fitted but Tracker are telling me its now too old and needs to be replaced with a newer model its been on the car since 2005 ,im considering removing it when the subscription expires and installing one myself .

But i cant find it ?

Any ideas ?

they are hidden in the car in random places so as a way of avoiding theves attemps at getting rid a tracker, talk to the installer but failing that you will just have to search......good luck

What self install tracker type device are you planning to use??

I called them about mine a few months back to be told it was still working. I wonder if they'll tell me if or when it isnt??

ETA - Just called them and checked (01895 234567 & Membershhip ID req'd) mines still active and "checked in" yesterday.

Tried to sell me a new one on the basis the battery is old & worn out - I'll think about it!

They did say my lifetime subscription would carry over though.

As above they are hidden and nobody will tell you where it's fitted. I found mine on an old X5 once when dropping a rear wheel arch liner - well hidden

Just forget it and add whatever new system you choose.

+1 - forget it

I only found the tracker on my E30 M3 by chance because I stripped the interior for wax-oil.

p.s. even the installer has probably forgotten its location as where I found mine was not where he thought he'd put it!

I had a new tracker fitted and by chance they found the old one, when they came to fit it. The old one was up behind the glove box. If you can remove it do so, as it may still be slowly draining your battery, if left in situ. :(

Thanks for the advise i would like to remove it as am thinking it might drain the battery or the battery may leak causing damage

In the past mostly in the rear bumpers or somewhere in the boot.
Interior, such as behind the panels would be a start as well.

But as said above, you'd better leave it as it is, you may only do damage by removing panels with clips breaking of.

Someone on here asked a while back what a piece of equipment was in the car, and his was under the seat (passenger) and had gotten wet.

are they a small box or large thing?? I'm guessing its just sicky 3m'd somewhere or is this unit alot larger than I'm thinking??

Good luck then as the entire purpose is to place it somewhere that you cannot find it, else thieves would know of obvious places to look in moments and have it out.

Given that we can assume fitters are lazy and won't remove panels and prefer to flex them and it needs a power supply, I'd look at anywhere you can lift a piece of carpet, remove a component and have power. Under the ashtray, coin tray behind handbrake, carpet at sides of boot, battery well, wheel arches, etc. etc.

Here is an example location:

There is a small black box next to the battery wasnt sure what it was i will investigate further

There are one or 2 boxes in there as oem. One is related to the crash sensor system to cut off battery power (mine is white) and other iirc is the amp, where fitted.

No - they were all dealer fitted.

The Porsche one is factory fitted by Cobra, the biggest rip off imaginable.
