Trackday

Just thought I would share my experience. I went to oulton park last week in the z4 it's a 3.0 auto
My usuall track day toy is a mini with a 2lt 16v vauxhall engine

So it had been a while since I have done a track day with house renovation and work commitments. So I thought I would take the zed.
I must say I was very impressed concidering runflat tyres and automatic gearbox.
I did put drilled and groved discs and ferodo ds2500 pads, which were very good.

With 80 cars booked on the track day I was unsure if I could hold my own. And I did. All day only one caterham and a honda civic track car overtook me.

I used the box in manual shift mode and just used it to change down the box and I let it shift back up on its own. And it worked ok. Manual would have been better but I was on the limit of the brakes and tyres anyway so unless I had a manual with bigger brakes and sticky tyres I wouldn't have gained much more.

Just thought I would share my experience as when I searched for track day in an auto there was not loads of info. I would not hesitate to track it again I really enjoyed it.

Looks like you had a great day :driving:
How would you rate Oulton Park for a drive and organisation btw?

Looking great! I used to have a Mini 7even engined road car and a 71 1293 Cooper S. Sadly they were lost in a garage fire :(

Oulton park is great definitely one of the best tracks in the uk. It's thrilling and the scenery is amazing ;)
Organisation wise it was good, the day was run by javelin track days. They are great i have been on a few with them now.
In the past I have done one with Msv who operate oulton park and they where good too.

That's tragic I would be gutted I have had the mini since I was 15. And I am 28 now, so I have nearly had it for half of my life :/

oulton is a great place if you don't do many days especially if they use the whole circuit. i would class myself as a novice and at oulton i find there is plenty of space to let people past you who catch up quick and its an easy circuit to learn and be quick enough on. my advice would be to get in quick with the tuition that's always on offer.

That looks like great fun. Im also looking at doing a track day soon in my z4 2.5 auto. Did your car cope ok and just out of interest how many miles does your have on the clock? Also how did the auto box work on the track? Any sudden changes? Mine has 80k miles and I am a bit worried something will let go but wont let that stop me from going.
