Trackday

Was thinking of doing a trackday in the near future so decided to just pop along to one to see how things are run,I mean I dont want some oik in an old golf t-boning my £15k Z now. So I checked out a website called "Trackdays" and they were advertising one on Feb 11th at Llandow which is not far so I went along. Sadly apart from an adjacent go kart track being busy there was nothing there, with the gates all locked up. Was glad I hadnt travelled far to an event that had either been cancelled or not put on at all.

They may have sent out cancellation noticed to all registered attendees, but as you just turned up on spec you weren't informed.

Never done Llandow myself though.

Accidents do happen, but are rare, and the only way to protect yourself from some oik in a Golf/Z4/Ferrari t-boning you is to not go on track, or to have insurance to cover the unexpected.

If you do see someone acting like a tit, then report them to the organiser. If they do nothing about it, then you probably want to stay away from that organiser in the future.

The way that a track day is organised and managed can have a significant bearing on the risk of an accident, but as mmm-five says, the risk will always be there. If you want a cheap taste of track days but without tyre walls or armco to collide with if you go off, you should try an airfield track day. They can be a bit variable, and I would avoid sharing a track with bikes if you can. I've used http://www.motorsport-events.com before. They are extremely well organised and safe, and start from around £100 a day. As for insurance, I've found fewer and fewer companies offer cover, and the price has progressively increased over the last few years. I don't bother with insurance for my Westfield, but for my ///M I expect to pay around £150 with an excess of about 10 times that.
