Well - after 6 months of having the car I finally got to put it through its paces. The local Porsche club was kind enough to open their doors for some driver skill trainings. I did classes in slaloms, advanced slaloms, ovals w/ early and late apexes, hard braking, and a ton of other stuff. To wrap the day up we did a little auto x. I was extraordinarily impressed with the handling as well as the power and braking. I noticed more skilled drivers with cars that I would assume would have crushed my little M but, she out performed them all. Of course the M more than made up for my lack of talent.

Can’t wait to go and take the more advanced classes now!

Hmm sounds good. Seems like getting on the track is the only way to get any speeding enjoyment these days :D

It's been said many times when people fuss over changing their suspension, brakes, wheels, or wear lighter underclothes to enhance performance on their cars, the weakest link is sitting in the driving seat (usually) and that's were the biggest improvement can be made to the performance of your car :)

Glad you enjoyed it and put a few other performance motors in their place by the sounds of it

Why are people surprised when these things do well on a track?

The 'stigs' top gear lap time was 0.2s off a gallardo iirc

I was surprised how well it did compare to my lack of talent. A few of the other owners and instructors did comment about how impressed they were with the car.

Yes, the best "mod" of all is the driver. BUT, a car can be improved with certain selective mods. Watch these vids of a Z3MC (S50) recently at The Ring in the hands of a very talented driver but with a diff swap from 3.15 to 3.46 ratio, Toyo R888 tyres and suspension upgrades, to see what can be done. The Z3MC with a S50 engine produces 321bhp.

Good to see the contemporary (presumably 996) 911 GT3 is over a second a lap slower, and there's not even a hint of a (W) next to it as an excuse... From my experience of multiple track day encounters I've always maintained that ours is faster
...now where is TomScott :poke: :D

edit - although it could have been a 997 depending when they tested the Z4M :?

For a few hot laps the Z4M is very fast but the stock brakes just can't handle the demands for extended periods of time... That's my only major issue with the car really and is the reason why i changed to better fluid/pads/brake lines and then to a BBK.

And that was with on the stock Conti's (crap). Imagine it with decent rubber. Same goes for our Nürburgring ring time.
