track day fun

my friend and I have decided to get a project car for track day fun. Having toyed with the idea ( and getting the other halfs to agree) we have decided that we need something that is quick, easy to work on in a home garage, not too complex electrically for £1000-£1500. Any suggestions?

Get yourselves a Lotus Seven type kit. A mate of mine had one a while back from Robin Hood Engineering. Great fun and proper balls-out driving experience, but you look a tit on the roads...
...dead easy to work on and mod for little money too.
