Track day at Oulton Park last weekend

good work! Have taken my previous cars on track days, but having never spent this much on a car before, am slightly apprehensive!

Plus, wasn't sure how the z4 would be on a track?

Hi,

yeah, I know how you feel, I was very aprehensive as I cant afford another Z4!..lol....but to be honest you dont need to drive with your foot in the carpet all the way round, you can drive at your own pace and work your way upto the cars limit in your own time...its just about having fun and enjoying the car. In terms of how the car did, put it this way, the only car that over took me on the day was an Audi RS6. As most people on this forum will tell you, the Z4 is renowned for being able to carry a ludicrous amount of speed through the bends and is one of the best handling cars BMW have made.

hello,

Indeed the z4 is renowned for being able to carry good speed through corners. Unfortunately where I live, there close to zero race tracks and when people want to drive, its up to the mountains past midnight. In japan its called a "Touge" run and it basically just sprints up and down winding mountain roads at times when there are no traffic. There is no direct competition and people (usually 4-5 cars on a weekend night) just drive at their own pace. Overtakes do happen but its usually with cars that are not there to drive fast.

I did sprints up and down a section of a mountain pass in both a z4 2.5i and a porsche 996, 100 bhp difference. On these roads, top speed you will ever hit is 140 kph and only a short time. There are constant corners so you end up playing between 2nd and 3rd gear mainly. At the end, I came out faster with a z4.

You should have mentioned this beforehand as I could have popped over, as Oulton's one of my regulars.

Good pics!!

I took my Z around donny its a great experiance and like udeo says you can go at your own pace :)

What was your Z like on the track at Donny?
I haven't taken mine on the track yet, but i think i will be in April when the ISTS show is on at Donny, unless the weather is as bad as it was at ISTS last year!

Hey Lucy it was impressive but the weather (and my lack of RWD ability!) did hamper the cornering speeds!

It was soaking wet, 4.0c and foggy but still great fun :D

I was really impressed how the Z4 compared to a new Focus ST, MGs, MX5s etc. We were the only track day noobs there so got lapped alot  I would recomend going in the summer as I think the RWD would performe much better in the dry!

Heres some pics from when I went:

I've been round donny on a scooter at the end of Moto GP qualifying days and that was fun.

Never been round in a car though. I'd love to give it a go.
