After doing a few laps in my Z I realised I am too scared of destroying my precious car so do not want to use it again until I earn enough to keep replacing those tires.

So I'm looking at getting a track car hopefully by the end of the year and wondered if anyone had any advice on the matter.

I have the normal cars in mind, 205 gti, Clio Williams, 106 gti (trying to go for really small cars)

The odd car has caught my eye whilst looking on Pistonheads, BMW Z3 (v.doubtful), Seat Ibiza GTI, Westfield se. Also I like the idea of an old MR2 but with being a new to this I am unsure what is the best option.

With a budget of around £3k so I can get used to the track seen, I don't know whether to try get a track car already prepared or is it possible for me to afford the car and get enough mods within my budget?

Take my word for it, if you buy a standard car and get the bug for turning into a properly sorted track car you better have deep pockets! On a tight budget it's probably wiser to buy something that's already had the money spent on it or go for a track oriented car like a Westfield, Lotus Elise etc. Reliability and repair costs have to be considered too.

search for a thread in the general foru- i posted one and the responces were good. think it was track cars as a title.

From personal expereince of competing in Jeeps (yeah differnt but it's all about turning a normal car into the spec required for a sport) I can tell you there is only one route to enter sports at reasonable costs and that is to buy something already sorted by someone who's leaving the sport. Time, money and development have gone in and the price is low compared to buying a car and doing it.

Getting in for £3k? My daughters boyfriend races a Lotus Elise and that the running costs for a few races allowing for entry fees, tyres, and various little mishaps

Thanks for the advice, will post the pics when I get one.

Gonna go for something already track specced like you lot suggested. Lookin at 205's at the moment but anything could come up in the next few months as I've only been looking on Pistonheads.
