TPMS - changing wheels

Hi,

I have TPMS and am thinking of changing up my wheels.

If I buy new wheels (tyres on) is it a case of going to a local 'tyre place' and getting them to put the TPMS sensors in the new wheels?

Yep. It's as simple as that. They generally want to change the valve cores and 'o' rings when they are swapped, though, apparently. And they will have to remove the tyres to fit the sensors, obviously.

Or, if your sensors are quite old, it's a good time to replace with new ones. Around £90 IIRC for a set of genuine BMW ones from sellers on the 'Bay. Just have to make sure they are the correct frequency for the E89. I bought a set from a recommended seller on here for my F33. Fitted a treat, were genuine (there is a way of telling but can't remember what), and the correct frequency so nothing else to do. Ebay seller is "Hondansr125rw".
Advantage is you can sell your existing wheels without removing tyres complete with TPMS valves, so worth more money. :thumbsup:

If your car is pre LCI then you won't have sensors, the tyre pressure warning is controlled using rotational speed via abs sensors. :thumbsup:

It's easy to tell whether you have TPMS, or FTMS (without sensors).
TPMS have solid aluminium valve stems with hex flats near the wheel. FTMS use normal valves with rubber flexible stems.
 
2009 definitely not TPMS…assuming it’s a UK car..it’s got FTM… Flat Tyre Monitor as stated based on using the ABS sensor rings..
 
It's UKish.
It's originally registered in Jersey.

I'll double check tomorrow but pretty sure it's regular rubber valve stems - so that makes new wheels even easier :)
