TPMS + 18" Rims

Hello!
My Z4 arrived yesterday and its a shame that the registration process takes so long since I can´t wait to ride it. I want to get a set of 18" rims, but the thing that bothers me is that the stock 17" on the car have TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring...). the question is, if I put on the 18", do I have to reprogramme somehow the TPMS to give me the adequate pressure for the 18" instead of the standard 17" pressure?

Thanks,

PS - where should I get my pics hosted?? :D

the reprogram process is nothing more than the pushing a button and holding it down. it just resets the sensors so it now takes whatever pressure it's currently set as to be the standard (someone correct me if i'm wrong). so if you throw on new wheels and put on sensors, just fill the tires with the correct psi as per the manual, and just reset it yourself. that's what i did when i switched bet my winter setup (oem 17s with blizzaks) to my summer setup (oem 18s with bridgestone rfts).

It doesn't work on pressure, it works on wheel spin.

You set it and when a tire gets low on air it spins different (Faster/slower) than the others and trips the sensor.

The 2007+ models have te in-tire individual sensors, but the sensors don't care what the actual pressur is, only when one tire is significantly different than the others.

so it wont be a problem upgrading from 17 to 18?
Pre '07 no issues.
From '07 on, you will need to transfer the in tire TPMS to the new wheels/tires.
You will also need to find out if the new wheel will accept the TPMS directly, (some don't)
...if not it can also be mounted by banding to the wheel. ....bit of a pain in the arse.

so if my Z4 was made before 07 I wont have any issues at all? Will it be a plug-and-play sort of thing?

So pre 07 doesn't have the TPMS? which means i don't have to buy 4 new ones for my rims when they come in???? If thats true i love you guys :driving: I was totally thinking i was going to add another 160ish to the rims for new TPMS sensors.

If your car is made before 2007, it doesn't use individual wheel sensors for TPMS - the ABS system monitors wheel rotation instead, so new wheels are just plug and play.
