Anyone running Toyo 888's ? I had them on the VX220 and with the suspension upgrade was pretty much the best thing I did (for the summer ) very sticky rubber!

definitely not for winter though.

Not to mention it's old technology now days, theirs cheaper that can do just a well and perform better in the rain.
 
I run them on my Westfield and they are awesome - it will corner faster than almost anything else on a warm dry track day :thumbsup:

I have soft compound Nankang NS-2Rs on one of my sets of ///M track wheels. They are nearly as good as 888s for half the cost. With my suspension upgrades, the handling is sublime, although it's still a boat compared with the Westie. If anyone is considering these, make sure you specify the soft compound not the medium, and don't be tempted to buy them in wider fitments than stock as they have a broad footprint and very square shoulders.

Edit: I've not tried either in the wet or at low ambient temperatures yet, but I imagine their performance will fall off rapidly.

That's interesting about the Nankangs!!! :o I had some nankangs on the rear of my M wheels when I got them. I didn't like them much. Not sure what ones they where mind!!
 
I get the impression that Nankangs in general are fairly middle of the road tyres, but these are soft compound tyres intended for track use and they're definitely up to the task

Yep - legal but not wise on a cold, wet night! I only use them on the road travelling to and from track days when dry weather is forecast.
 
I've just taken R888 GG from my Z4 and put my other wheels with pilot super sports on. While PSS are great tyres, they're not a patch on R888's for steering feedback, turn in and general response. I'm a big fan.
 
Avon ZZ-RS are worth a look, I've been running them on my track wheels, and they are probably the best performing R compound tyre I have used (including R888s, A048s), however, they are *very* noisy! and I have had some issues with the carcass cracking across the tread. But Avon did send me a new set of rears FOC to replace them. They are also lasting an impressively long time.
 
the nankangs are the real deal... i managed some great time on the ROAD compound version semi slick, i did order the soft compound and the plonker fitted the wrong ones, i didn't even know until much later... DOH... i think i had the first set of these budget semi slicks on the z4m, and its changed my perspective.

they are a VERY impressive tyre, the control tyre in actual race series. Very noisey, wear out quickly but are reputed to be one of the best in the rain... incredible type for the money, the SET cost me 525 quid!!! i can't wait to get on the soft compound ones and get back to the track to get my time down. They do run very wide so be warned you may actually need to downsize, or run a conservative ride height at least. They are the REAL deal.

Beedub - are you running standard size tyres on those 260Ms? How much work is required to fit them on the front?

For the money I really like the Federal 595 RS-R, it's a decent compromise for road and track use. I think next time I'll be trying the Federal FZ-201 :)
 
R888's once stopped me binning it at the ring in my track E36 where i got a little out of my comfort/skill zone by going into a corner a little too hot. There was no drift as such and to a spectator i probably looked like a hero as i used the whole track, but my arse was twitching and i was bracing for the worst. Normal road tyres and it would have been an expensive day out! So i rate them highly for that reason.

I'm running the correct size/ ideal size for the rims, 235/40 up front, 265 / 35 out back, the 260m are very aggressive fitment, but look incredible. Very aggressive setup needed, plus a conservative ride height ( perfect for me as i wanted proper suspension travel form over function) but it works and works WELL, their is no contact with the body at all during the most extreme conditions, if you were to put on the stock setup z4m these would probably cause alot of damage. My car has absolutely no modifications to the panels or bodywork, and id never use a wheel that required such work.

Interesting, thanks. That's a fair drop in overall tyre diameter.

seems I'm not the only one who loves these nankangs ( people wince when they see that name on my car ) they've reset my tyre snobbery.
