Toying with the idea of an e89

I've actually got pre and post facelift E85 brochures! Just dug them out.

The weights in both brochures quoted are "unladen weight" and include 90% full tank, drivers weight of 68kg and 7kg of luggage. Figures in brackets below are for auto versions.

Pre-facelift:-

2.0iSE 1295kg
2.2iSE 1325kg (1360kg)
2.5iSE 1335kg (1365kg)
3.0iSE 1365kg (1385kg)

Post facelift:-

2.0i 1295kg
2.5i 1345kg (1375kg)
2.5si 1360kg (1395kg)
3.0si 1385kg (1415kg)

Z4MR 1485kg
Z4MC 1495kg

So definitively the difference between a 3.0 si e85 and the similar 3.0 e89 is 105 kg, so a big bloke :-)

For some reason I thought there would be a larger gap in weight between the 2.0 e85 to the M e85 but I suppose 200kg is plenty extra to lug around.
 
I went from a Z4MC to a e89 35is and for 95% of the time I am more than happy , for the other 5 when im driving like i probally shouldnt my old car would be better but I would say that has something to do with it being an M car and this one isnt , in an ideal world I would have both

I can't comment on difference between older and newer models, never driven an older one but I agree with what everyone else has said about the E89 being a superb machine.

Thanks for all the feedback I guess I need to arrange a test drive to see if the weight gain is a negative or a possitive.

I do wonder if the new z4 is as reliable as the one I have as there seem to be a number of people comaining about various issues
 
I had my 2.3i for three and a half years, and now my 2.0i for about 7 weeks and no issues at all apart from a couple of roof rattles and dancing windows on my first one (which were sorted)....touch wood nothing so far on the 2.0i.
Loved every mile in them both and these are/were my daily drives!
 
The E89 is probably more suitable for British roads, more comfortable. The E85/86 is more nimble and the E89 more of a cruiser than bruiser but I suppose having a go in one would put your mind straight :thumbsup:

I think the weight thing has been well covered so I will comment on the dimensions. I have a single garage and was worried it wouldn't fit. It is approx a couple of inches wider than my old e85 and 7 inches longer and it only just fits in the garage. As far as the ride quality goes, the e89 is far superior to the e85 in my opinion but I still love the styling of the e85.

People will say the same when the next full refresh of the Z4 happens. Look at all the iterations of the 3er

Anything with smooth lines like the Z3 I feel always date better than cars with sharp lines like the Z4 :|

When if first saw the Z4 in 2003 ish, I wanted one straight away, so much more aggressive than the Z3, when I saw the e89 in the flesh at the dealer in DSB, it was just love and I almost signed on the dotted line there and then.

The point is that cars evolve, but I think the e85 still looks good, however the Z3 looks completely dated to me, a proper classic car dated though.
 
The Z3 never appealed to me because of the lines and how small it was. The E85 was just perfect size, bit more sports car like.

The E89 was ok to look at, but never received any special engine to tempt me.
 
Have to disagree, I think the Z3 especially the facelift still looks amazingly fresh compared to anthing else from the 90s. Yes cars evolve but most seem to date very quickly.

The only suitable replacement for the Z3 would be the Z2 if similar in size, I never think of the old Z4 as its successor.

I've always thought the Z3 looks like a Noddy car. I think it's very dated but that might give it an appeal to lovers of older cars.

Edit: the z3 roadster not the Coupe.

Normally me on the end of it, makes a change for me to sit back and watch!

.....and think think Tim's Z3 is a fine example too! (even if it is the size of Noddys car) :wink:
