I would like to tow my 2003 Z4 ( automatic ) with my tow dolly...........I read if you put the front wheels up on the tow dolly , you have to disconnect the rear axals............1st is this correct ?
2nd I see no problem with towing it with the back wheels on the tow dolly

any help would be appericated

Thanks
Fred

That's a real US thing to do with cars and not often seen in the UK. We either flat tow with rigid connection or trailer.

I can't speak for the Z4 gearbox, but in general autos need the prop disconnecting to tow. On Jeeps it's due to oil starvation on the shaft bearings.

Towing the other way would work but I'd want the front bumper off else that will be trashed on the ground.

Yes, it's "standard" practice to tow with 2 wheels on the ground here, but drives me crazy. Mostly seen behind massive RVs. If you got the money to own and feed one of those, you got the money to get a proper trailer for the entire car!.

Usually you tow with the drive wheels on the dolly, but as our front bumpers have that "lip" under there, you'll probably tear it off with a small bounce.

I thought towing an auto was a no no with the drive axle on the road? Get a proper trailer is my immediate thought.

I'm with the "get a proper trailer" man ....... :)

The idea of dragging my zed down the road on it's rear wheels for thousands of miles freaks me out
