Towing a caravan or trailer with the zed....

Nor did I until we bought one. We're not your stereotypical caravan type though as i agree i don't get the point of taking a small hotel room to a random Field and sitting in it for a week.

We usually go with like-minded mates. Booze, fire, games etc. Somewhere near water (rivers or sea) so me and my mates can take our canoes and usually somewhere not far from a town to taxi into town for nights out.

Over the years the caravan has more than paid for itself and works out much cheaper than hotel rooms. That said, we've not spent a lot on it. Some of the new caravans are scary money and at that price point i don't get it either.

Wow, look at that, a caravan and tent in one! Me likey! :)

This is our current waggon before and after a luck of paint but going to upgrade to a slightly newer one as she's showing her age now. Hot water would be nice.

Anyone got a hitch fitted?

http://www.uktow.com/towing capacity.asp?make=BMW&model1=Z4 gives some useful info about caravans that can be towed with a zed.

By the way, getting the noseweight is vital. More info https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/media/12354614/noseweights-mo__2_.pdf

Happy towing!
Handy. Thx
So i'll be able to tow a 1.4 tonner then. Groovy. I'd be tempted to find as light a van as i could tho. That van/tent combi posted earlier looks the bizniss! :driving:

Is the Z4 legally rated to tow a Caravan or Trailer?

I use my 325ti to tow the race BMW, it does a good job actually. Note this is the old piccie with nose weight too high and a boot full of spares and tools, I couldn't find the more recent photo?

I used to use my wifes Celica TRD Sports M to tow the race Caterham, that insulted one or two purists. :D

Both had a braked towing weight on the V5 though (1600kg on the Compact and 1200kg on the Celica).

Went for the two tone. Like a 50's/60's classic with a white top. She's held up well but we now need something a little more durable. It's an old van so axle 'n' stuff isn't great. No longer confident for a tow over long distances.

Me neither... if I want to spend a weekend sh1tting in a bucket, I'll go and visit Taz....

Oi, pi55 off you lot, nothing wrong with sh1tting in a bucket :poke: :poke :P :
We have been caravaners for many years and love getting away in our luxury tin box, we always use the fine onsite amenities, so no number 1's or 2's in the van.
I wouldn't want to tow with the Z as it's not got the weight to tow my van safely, we use a Nissan 4x4.
Chris, there are quite a few micro vans around now, which would tow no trouble.

Yer fred, that swift basecamp one that paulr posted is rather spiffy but comes in at 18k fully-specced.
I'm havin a look around the internets atm..just feeling out whats available. Been telling mates it's for so i can get away for bikey bike weekends around the german hills, but really it's to satisfy the inner-pikey in me
Dya like dags?

lots of discussion here regarding sports cars towing caravans (just seems wrong to me  )

http://www.practicalcaravan.com/forum/towcars/3099-sports-car-for-towing-caravan

Here you go Marlon. Train Spotters forum for you to join. :tumbleweed:

Or We could have a poll on which forum is best.
(After the Z4 forum of course) :D

Thinking about it. If you must tow one of those mobile cramp boxes, I guess a decent drivers car is the best thing to have when you get where your going.

Or you could just stay in a decent Hotel.

Don't knock folding caravans (not trailer tents), they are serious bits of kit these days, and tow very well:

More interesting options.
However, i'd prefer summink with a bit of space to stash a couple of bikes to as per that summit one u posted earlier. That would then negate requirement to use the bootbikerack. looks top but a bit steep at 18k fully kitted imo.
Still lookin...
